My nails are yellow

I just wanted to say something about a comment I got on YouTube a while ago. You can see my naked nails in my manicure tutorials ... and I got this comment on YouTube: ''ur nails seem a bit yellow''. Well, you see right! They are yellow and I'm not proud of it. I wear nail polish (most of the time in dark colors) non stop for more than 6 months now. As soon as I take one off, I immediatelly paint my nails with other shade. That kind of treatment left my nails yellow. Don't get me wrong. I wasn't offended by that comment. I just wanted to know if you can recommend me something. I'm always wearing base coat (Nailtek Foundation II) which is great for ridge filling, but it looks like it's not working against staining. I tried removing stains with whitening toothpaste...but that's just nonsense. I don't want something to remove stains, I want something that will prevent nails to get yellow. All your comments are really welcome! :)

You can see my stained suckers here:

Thanks for looking!

  1. I don't know about preventing the yellowing. I haven't had nail polish off my nails long enough to notice if I have any LOL. I haven't noticed any yellowing on my own nails that I can see. I use No Miss Base Coat.

I found a blog by Casual Lavish about REMOVING yellowing from nails.

    I hope that helps. :)

  6. Oh, your nails don't look that yellow to me! I'd love to see solutions for this also though - I also always use basecoat (Orly Nail Armor) which I love, but I'd switch in a heartbeat to prevent yellowing!

  7. Well, you've probably seen mine naked on my blog - the base coat I use is from ProStrong, it's their Instant Nail Builder. I usually get mine from QVC but I think they have their own website also.

  8. If your nails are yellow, mine must be orange! I wouldn't dare go without polish. They're really stained. I always use a base coat and I still get staining. I used to get the stains out with some buffing but not anymore. The only way I got rid of stains was not to wear nail polish. That's not going to happen anytime soon!

Lucy is correct, you always want to use a base coat to pretect your natural nail. Using a base coat will keep a layer between the color and your natural nails. If you use a base coat and top coat your nail polish will last longer. Please, dont use Bubble White it will make you nail weak. If you want to use something natural try using lemon juice but, that will only work over time...

  13. Same here! Nailtek Foundation II just doesn't do the trick when it comes to staining. You're not gonna see me without my nail polish either. :)

and i don't think your nails are really that stained- mine are even worse and it worked well with the Alessandro Polish

  17. I'm using Rimmel Lycra 3-in-1 base coat.

You might want to try Nail Rimmel Whitener that's suppose to be brightening & anti-yellowing. It works as a base coat. Good luck! :D

  18. I wish I could give you my tip - but it seems like you're using it allready: I got rid of a terrible staining I had by starting to use nail tek base. it does not say anything about cleaning the nails, but since I started using it, my yellow stains faded and almost gone. the new grown nails are much less stained too. I hope you can find the thing that will work for you :-)

  20. hello ! Have you ever try to put your nails into lemon or hydrogen preoxyde ? My basecoat is poshe and it prevent the yellowing (I don't know if it is the goog word in english lol!) moreover, I think the most important is to use a basecoat without formaldéhyde, dpb and other bad chimical products (and they carcinogen too!!!) good luck ! my nails are also a little yellow but I think it is my nature of nails

  21. I'll try lemon. But I'll stay away from peroxide... :) Just in case. I think I'll have to pay more attention to prevent nails from yellowing. I'll post my findings in next weeks. :) Thank you for your comment!

  22. Hi Nihirida!
There's a Brazilian blog about nails called "Unha Bonita" (Pretty Nail). They are very good, do lots of swatches, always know about the latest polish news, and i read some solutions about yellow nails.
    This is the link: http://unhabonita.virgula.uol.com.br/clareiesuasunhasemcasa/
I'll try to resume it for you:
There's an Orly product called "Nail Whitener With Teal Tree Oil". It goes like this: spill the product into a container with warm water and put the hands for 5 minutes.
The other solution is home made:
In the pharmacy you can buy peroxide (i don't know if i translated this well, here we call oxigenated water) but it has to be VOL.10. So deep the hands in it for 10minutes and there you go!
    Kiss

  24. Try to find some lemon essential oil (you should be able to find this on the internet or at a biologic stuff store) - it has a whitening effect on nails and prevent yellowing (it works on me). Blend lemon oil to castor oil (which strenghten nails) or if you don't have any castor oil, take olive oil. Lemon really works, it's natural and not dangerous or riskey. I put oil on my nails after each cleaning and gently massage them.

Also... try to allow your nails a little break without polish or anything once a week. I do it for health sake, even if I'd sometimes rather have painted. I think they need some rest and a good breathe from time to time. :)

  25. This says topcoat but I have been using it as a basecoat for my yellow nails. I have only used it for my last 2 manis and it seems to do pretty well. It does well for not chipping too. I use 2 coats before applying my color.
