War Update

WARNING: This post is not to be seen by pregnant women, children, elderly or anyone with a heart condition. It contains explicit images of naked nails.

So! It's been a month since I've declared a war against my yellow nails. I've been soaking, rubbing and brushing them for 30 days. You want to see the results? Really? Oh, you'll be so sorry later. :)))

This is a photo of my nails without anything on them. Please, don't be too hard on me (and yes, I know they're disgusting). Taken on October 10th.

Taken on November 7th.

I guess all that torturing didn't do any good. The opposite! I think my nails are even more yellow. Almost orange. I think I'll have to find the traitor in my own team first. Nailtek Foundation II is that you? Could it be you?

What do you think ladies? Is there anything I can do? I don't know what else to do. I started using extra base coat under Nailtek a few days ago... Ughhhh! Crivens!

Thanks for looking! Hope you survived ... then expect a phone call in seven days. Muahahaha LOL

EDIT: I think I might be unto something! Check this out:

  1. Heyyyy!
Well, my nails are yellow BUT not as yellow as yours...
Try this, soak your nails in hydrogen peroxide vol. 10 with water and then you tell me if it worked. Sorry about the bad english. I hope you understood what I tried to say =)
    xoxo

  2. I'm glad for you. :) I tried hydrogen peroxide. Even stronger one. And it didn't work at all. I also added some baking soda in there. :(

Dont worry about it, mine are yellow too and I've tried half a dozen diffrent base coats. You always have pretty painted nails.

  4. I think I have given up that battle, mine are just as bad. I just make sure to ALWAYS wear nail polish

  5. I think the reason for my yellow nails is Nail Tek Intensive Therapy II so maybe there's something about Nail Tek that creates the yellowing effect. I'm planning on changing my base coat when I run out my Nail Tek in a couple of days and hopefully it'll help. If not, I don't know what to do.

  6. I know, I just don't want to be a slave of nail polish. And also wear french manicure without that yellow shining though. :)

  7. Yeah, me to. :) But I don't intend to give up just yet.

  8. Those damn B3! Crivens! But I like my Nailtek Foundation... *sigh*

  9. I say try Barielle Nail Brightener! That worked the best for me, better than the yellow stopper stuff from Sally's that I told you about before.

  10. I hate my yelllow nails too! I am sorry that nothing worked for you!

    i promise i see a difference

  12. Are you thinking you're alergique to nailpolish?
Andreia brand is formaldehyde and toluene free.

Did you try lemon or denture cleaning tablets?
And you should hidrat a lot your nails with olive oil or some cream (baby cream). I think that will work.

  13. I think the basecoat is to blame - either in itself, or not protecting your nails enough from the polish. I seem to get a lot of comments that I don't have much staining when I post mine naked, the 2 basecoats I use are Seche Clear or Pro Strong Instant Nail Builder.

  14. My nails have taken an orange hue several months ago and it's even worse now. Yours looks like white nails compared to mine! It bothers me but then I just paint over it so I haven't tried anything to whiten them. I am interested in knowing what actually works, so keep up the good work! Oh in case you're wondering I use Seche Clear or Seche Base.

  15. I just bought the nail tek II does it really work? if so I'll take yellow nails over peeling ones --- its the lesser of the two evils (sigh)

  16. Darn! I was hoping you would win the battle. My nails look just like yours. I never leave them naked so, I don't worry about it too much.

  17. I have only seen this product while I was shopping online...I haven't tried it it's by seche called "Seche Bright Nail Whitening Treatment" it might help if you can get it...

  18. i also have yellowe nails too.. i think its natural for our nails to get yellowe for we put polish in our nails... don't be so upset sweety... u're not only one who has this problem.. i think anyone who loves polishing nails...*wink* hugs!!

  19. Nihrida, it's a well known problem for formaldehyde and such to stain nails. I've read that not everyone is prone to that, but it might be the cause for your "orangies". ;) Of course I have yellow nails too and I'm also planing to find "the cure" but I just don't have the time. And I'm comforting myself that it's not that bad and that I'm not the only one with such problem... {o yeah... dream on babe}. I keep my fingers crossed that you'll finally find something revolutionary that will help us all. ;)

  20. This is the downside of our love of wearing colorful polishes... If it makes you just a wee bit happier, I honestly don't think your nails are particularly yellow ;)
I haven't tried any whitening nail products, so unfortunately can't help you there. I know Orly has a product called Orly Nail Whitener - I saw it on eBay just the other day, I believe it's available at H2T and the other big E-tailers as well. Perhaps you want to give it a shot?
You know I use the Nailtek Foundation II as well.... I haven't noticed any substantial yellowing of my nails as a result from using it, but I'll definitely be on my guard now ;))

  21. I cant really see any difference :( i just saw this video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=da1r_IVR2uE&feature=sub and it looks like that works :) So maybe try that :D

  22. Nihrida, I'm sorry, but the only sure cure for yellow nails is to let them naked for a long time, a month or more.
Meantime you have to take multivitamins and calcium, and to wear only oils (or lotions) that nourishe and hydrate the nail. Even than the yellowness will not disappear, when your nails grow you will have to cut that part out. However the part that left will be healthy, pink and beautiful. You maybe will notice that your nails are yellow only on the tips but not on the close to the cuticles, that is why there they will be less exposed to the impact of the nail polish.
But this is not big deal, every girl that wears nail polish every day have the same problem, me too, even Scrangie has. No matter what base coat you wear the nails need to breath so to stay beautiful naked.

  23. Yep, it does work. My nails used to peel like crazy. No peeling anymore and they are rock hard. :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Good to know. But I think it doesn't help a lot, since I can't get it here. :/ Thanks for info!

  25. I don't plan to give up. The war continues! :)

  26. :)))) LOL You made me smile! :)

  27. I don't think I'm alergic, it's probabla just the chemicals in the base coat. I tried lemon, denture tablets and hydrogen peroxide. Nothing works.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah, I agree! It must be my beloved Nailtek. Grrrrrrr

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh, Kae, but your nails are so pretty! They are perfect! Well, Seche is supposed to be B3F, right?

Hello Nihrida :) this is not so bad, to avoid the yellowing of my nails and dryness that comes with it, I put creams to moisturize my hands, creams just for nails and hands, I do it every night for at least 15 min, and once in the day if my hands are dry, long a bath of hydrogen peroxide for several minutes, even with the change of polish, my nails are white) then moisturize constantly!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yeah, maybe after my ''no online buy''. :) Thanks for info! :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm not really upset, not with all those gorgeous polishes I have. I just want to have white nails, that's it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thanks for making me feel a bit better. If master Maestra has this problem too, then it's OK. :) We'll find something, don't despair! :)

  35. It does make me wee bit happier. :))) Oh my, there's so many whitening products out there... Thanks for info!

  36. Well, treatments like nailtek are meant to go deep into the nail. If you wear colour over them they tend to pull the colour down into the nail as well.
A normal ridgefiller is meant to fill the nail up and leave stuff out so it works as a barrier between the polish and the nails.
With that in mind I started to wear a basic ridgefiller over my treatment and under the colour. It has done wonders for my nails. Now they do get the benefit of the treatment but not the discolourations.

  37. Nihrida: My nails are just as yellow as yours. It just comes from wearing nail polish all the time. And that girl who initially told you that your nails were yellow should have just minded her own business. She was probably jealous of something about you and wanted to take you down a notch to make herself feel better. Everyone who wears nail polish constantly gets some discoloration. Your nails are beautiful and you are beautiful. I'm afraid it takes adding some years to your age to achieve this peace of mind. But please don't let her take up any more of your time!

  38. Have you tried soaking your nails in lemon juice? you can as well put your fingertips inside a lemon and wait about 5 to 10 min.

    ReplyDelete
  39. That looks interesting! Thanks for posting the link! :) Again something from the USA. Don't women in EU have yellow nails problem too?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yeah, Pampita I'm afraid that's the best cure...

    ReplyDelete
  41. OMG, it couldn't do that every night for 15 minutes... That's just too much. :))) You soak you nails in hydrogen peroxide every day?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I do that to now. First I apply clear base coat, then Nailtek and over that colored nail polish. :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. :))) Well said, Marsha! Thank you for your kind words! :*

  44. I tried lemon, but I'd rather eat it than soak my fingers in it. *blushes*

  45. http://passiondesongles.over-blog.com/November 13, 2009 at 7:35 PM

For hydrogen peroxide, I do it once a month, it depends on their condition, and cream I do while I watch TV at night, when my hands are at rest) hydration is the key nails white and soft!

  46. The only thing that worked for me was not wearing nail polish for three months and chopping all my nails off short. I'm not about to do that again. I'll just keep them polished. I always wear a base coat. As a matter of fact I wear 2 layers of base coat. I even did the same with ridge fillers. I still have stains. Your nails look white compared to mine. I just think it's the curse of wearing nail polilsh. I always read that the culprit is dark nail polish or not wearing a base coat. I always wear a base coat and I can't blame dark nail polish. So I hope someone comes up with something.

  47. hehe maybe not :P except us two :D

  48. You have such lovely nails. Whenever my nails turn yellow I just use Yves Rocher Nail Whitener. It works on my nails when they get yellowy and they make my nails look really healthy. I hope this helps.

I just wanted to add that your blog has inspired me to try really hard to keep my onychophagia at bay. Thank you. :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Well, hopefully we'll find some other resolution than choping it all off. :) Thanks for commenting!

Really? Wow, I'm so honoured! :) I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Keep it up!

  51. Hey, Westerday I saw a video on YT.

Check it out, I think it will help you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=da1r_IVR2uE

  52. Thanks, Tania! RijaH already posted link to this video. :) It looks interesting...Wonder where could I get this...

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yikes!! The part of the nail near the cuticles look fine!!

I personally think it might be because your nails don't have a chance to breath. Try, if possible to not wear any nail polishes. I knew someone who had beautiful nails and she would always change her nail polish colour. Her nails then turned yellow because her nails didn't get to breath, so they kind of died. Now, she never wears nail polish and her nails are better again =]

    ReplyDelete
  54. Lisa, I don't think nails breathe in the first place. ;)
