Mannequin Hands

I see these so called ''mannequin hands'' everywhere these days. That reminded me of this nail polish - S-he 204. Not completely mannequin manicure, but close enough for me. =)

3 coats, with Seche Vite top coat

Wanna hear the BEST ''rule'' of nail polishing I've ever heard of?
Everyone has a dominant and sub-dominant hand. I'm right handed, so that makes my right hand dominant. I've always painted my left hand first ... I don't really know why. I guess 'cause it's easier for me to paint left than right hand. The result was: solidly painted nails on left hand and not so good painted nails on my right hand. Know what I'm talking about?
Let's skip to the trick, which is: paint your dominant hand first! That's it. Now I'll always paint my right hand first and it's soooooo much easier to paint it and I don't even have to do clean-up.

I don't know why this thing works, but I don't really care. =) Try it and tell me if it works for you too.

P.S.: I heard about this on Make Up Alley's Nail Board. Gotta love it!

Thanks for looking!

  1. I have gotten really good at both hands just by practice so the more the better ;) Practice makes perfect ;D When i take pics for my site I only put on left hand and I leave the thumb out.. cant be bothered to both when I will remove it again after a short while :P

  2. If I have the time (ie painting at night) I paint my left hand (I'm right handed) and wait for it to completely dry. I like to have an unpainted hand for answering the phone, rummaging in a drawer, making a coffee. Weird huh. Then when my left is dry, I paint my right. I don't do clean up, I paint tidy. Tho I've often wondered how others paint. I tend to fluff I think - haven't mastered the 2/3-stroke application. I filmed myself painting my nails about 3 days ago. I was gonna do a blog sharing it and then get people to tell me what they do! lol

I really like this, that's a great mannequin polish match according to me!

About the polishes I ordered, yes it is! For Audrey is to die for, finally I ordered it! The other polishes are Wagon Trail + 2030 from ChG, Green With Envy from Misa, Mad As A Hatter from OPI, Enchanted Forest + Matte Top from ORLY and top coat + ridgefiller from Seche.

I should do a manikin hand mani sometime. The color is very close to your tone so a great match!

I wonder if that is why I don't have any trouble. I was Left handed until I was 16 and had an injury that left major nerv damage in my left hand so i had to switch to being right handed. So I really don't have a dominant hand anymore. Very interesting.
Now I just need a trick for the too much coffee shakes and polishing. lol

  13. I've actually been using that trick for awhile. But I'm also ambidextrous so that helps. :)

  14. I've been using that trick for awhile but I'm also almost ambidextrous (more right dominant) so that helps too. :)

  17. Yep, my mom taught me to do that. Paint your dominant hand first, because then your fingers aren't all wet and fragile while you're trying to do the dominant hand. Also, it's better to get the harder one over first! Also, start from your pinky so that your hand doesn't bump, I think that ones mostly for toes, start left to right.

  18. I'm right-handed and I always paint my right hand first. It's really great advice!

  19. Wow, that color is almost spot on! Maybe a tad less orange?

  20. I know how important practice is. But still, I find it very much easier to polish my right hand first.

  21. I used to do that to: paint my left hand completely...wait for it to dry and then repeat on my right hand. =)

  27. I'd love to see this kind of mani on your nails. =) You're both handed now. Maybe we both have ''the shaking hands'' problem because of the coffee (or tea in my case). Hmmmm

  35. Well, thank you, Lisa! I though the same when I looked at the photos, but it looks less orange IRL.

  36. Holy cow- it totally works! I painted my non-dominant hand first and it came out *significantly* better! I think it's because the non-dominant hand did not have wet polish so I held the brush differently. I will be painting my nails this way from now on. Thanks for passing along such a great tip :)
