Matte Comparison: Essie VS ManGlaze

I got a request to compare two matte top coats: Essie Matte About You and ManGlaze Matte-Astrophe. I mattified my last manicure and here are the results.

1 coat of Essie/ManGlaze over my previous mani

Not that different, huh? But still, if you look closely... you can see that the nail with ManGlaze has more depth. Or is it just me? Maybe I'm rooting for my fave. =) I also have to mention I got tip shrinkage this time (this never happened to me before) - Essie's shrinkage was *major*.

In this case, ManGlaze is a winner for me. But don't worry, I'll have another comparison with another base soon. =)

Thanks for looking!

  2. This is such a pretty mani! I think I like the Manglaze better too! There is a slight difference indeed, it looks more crisp :-D

  4. Exactly! But I wasn't sure if anyone else is going to notice it. I'm clearly a ManGlaze fan... =)

ManGlaze looks better! I have Essie myself, but I don't use it often so maybe I don't need ManGlaze either :D

  6. Yeah, it looks like you don't need it. This is for those, who are still deciding on which top coat to get. :)

I think what it is, is that the Man Glaze is clearer, it does add the cloudy or dusty look that MAY does. Man Glaze is easier to work with too, in my opinion.

in the first picture, I cannot tell the difference between your middle and ring fingers. In the others, they do look a bit different, but then, the light is hitting them differently too, due to the angle of your fingers. I love the ManGlaze bottles though, so it wins for me.
What surprises me is that you got shrinkage with a matte topcoat??

  9. I found the exact same difference between China Glaze Matte Magic and RBL matte topcoat. The expensive one was more crisp.

  10. Thanks for doing that for me. Essie is easier for me to purchase but manglaze has such a cool bottle so I am still undecided.

  14. Not enough of a difference to make me buy another matte topcoat! Love the manicure. Looks like the night sky in outerspace! Or so that I imagine it looking.
