Feeling Patriotic pt. II

I was wondering. Do you know anyone from Slovenia? Let me know if any of these names ring a bell, OK? =)
* Primoz Kozmus (world champion in hammer throw)
* Dejan Zavec (IBF welterweight boxing world champion)
* Robert Kranjec (ski-flying world cup winner)
* Sara Isakovic (freestyle swimmer)
* Peter Mankoc (world record 100m butterfly 2008)

We're great in football, soccer, basketball, boxing, skiing, nordic, ski jumping, athletics... and many more.

Slovenia also has some of the worst musicians... Unfortunately. But these two (Sank Rock and Tinkara Kovac) totally rock! Best song ever...

Thanks for looking!

  1. My friend spent a year in Ljubljana and she is a huge fan of Siddharta (band)! I like them too! :)

  4. I know Anžej Dežan - from Eurovision Song Contest in 2006. He was such a cute, energetic boy! And I love the song "Mr. Nobody" still, really catchy and great to dance to. He's really adorable (in a "cute-like-a-little-brother -way") in the official video with the "dramatic" looks LOL On a side note: that was The Year When Finland Finally Won the ESC :D

  5. Sorry to hear that. =) She must be the last person I'd want you to know Slovenia for.

  6. Yeah! He's a nice boy (man?)... And I remember...that was the first and probably the last time I voted. For Finland of course. =)

  9. Hi Nihrida - I'm afraid I don't know anyone from Slovenia (unless I count you via blogging). None of those names are familiar to me but it's always great to learn new things!

  10. Unfortunately I do not know anything about Slovenia, except that I am half Slovenian - and proud of it. My dad's parents immigrated from Slovenia to the U.S. I know one word - zupa? isn't that soup? Haha, maybe I don't know it. I would like to know more.

  13. =) That's OK. Oh, an interesting thing. Did you know that the movie Prince Caspian was shot in New Zealand and Slovenia?

  14. =) I was wondering about your name! It means ''the morning star''. =) Yes, župa is soup, but the correct term is juha. =) If you'll ever want to know more...just ask me! =) I'd be glad to help! :*

  16. I love that not only do you recognize my name but you know what it means. NOBODY pronounces it right, even though it's the English pronunciation of it, not the actual pronunciation. If you ever come to the States people will be perplexed, it's really amazing how no matter how many times you say it they're still like "Janica?"

  18. I post on MUA--wanted to let you know that I am Slovenian! I was just going through your blog, and when I saw you are Slovenian, I almost had a heart attack. :)

I live in the US, but both sides of my family are Slovenian, one 100% and one 50%. :) Seems like most people haven't even heard of Slovenia!

  19. Really? WOW!!! =D Where are your parents from? And do you know any Slovene?

  20. My parents were born in the US, but my grandparents are from Slovenia. Not sure exactly where, but I'll ask and get back to you. :)

Unfortunately I don't know much Slovene. I wish I could take a class on it though! Where are you from? :)
