Orbs

Diana from Painted Lady Fingers posted about Orbs recently. For those of you who aren't familiar with this phenomena - orbs are the circles that appear in photographs and videos. Some sources say they are ghosts in the form of balls of light (What are Orbs?).

Now, I remember of having a ball of light on a photo from one of my college trips, but I don't have it anymore... So I wanted to check my other photos, but didn't have time (I had a lot of work with my niece's birthday party) and today, my sister was taking some photos with her camera. When I uploaded them on my computer, I saw something strange. There was a huge ball of light over my sister's head and a few smaller ones underneath. Check it out:

I only cropped this photo and blurred our faces. I swear. There are other photos taken from the same spot in the same direction (with the same camera settings) that don't have these ''suckers'' on them. I'm actually speechless. I don't know what this is, but one thing is for sure. I DON'T want to believe these are ghosts. I do believe in them, but I don't want them near me. That creeps me out. Unless if it's one of my cats. Gaia? Yeah, I'm loosing my mind...

What do you think, Diana? Is this a coincidence or what!

Let me know your theory on these balls of light, dear Readers. Do you have them on any of your photos?

Thanks for looking!

P.S: I just realized it now. Vita kind of looks terrified on this photo.

    1. It isn't dust because some people have tried to re-make orbs in other pictures by using dust, but it doesnt work.

  3. @LadyLuck27: If it was dust, why is it visible only on this photo and not on any of the others?

  4. I don't want to freak you out, but these balls are called Orbs. Some believe they are from camera settings, some don't. Decide for yourself. Check more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orb_%28paranormal%29 :)

  5. Now I don't want to scare you and it's just a theory my family had, but both my uncles would have these bright lights or squiggles of light through them on pictures. At first it would only be on one uncle, then after he passed it would be on my other uncle's, who also passed, both from lung cancer.
But it was more of a squiggly bright line then a spot. And my mom wasn't the best at taking pics, so it was prob just a coincidence :)(long post sorry!)

  6. Haha Vita is just adorable, but she does look terrified lol!

I'm with you...I don't want to believe in ghosts, I really don't. But (and laugh all you want, I don't blame you!) I don't want to say I don't believe, because if there ARE ghosts, I don't want to piss them off by doubting them. Oh yeah, I've lost my mind ;)

  7. I am a photographer and I think it's most likely light reflecting from a light source like a lamp or even the window.

Now, I do believe in ghosts though but I also believe that there are just a lot of people (and animals) that stay with us that way to protect us. If it was a bad ghost you would feel it differently. Also - the baby looks super happy - I don't see terrified at all.

    Don't watch Paranormal Activity.

  8. Hi love. Any photographer will tell you that the little circle in your photo is dust. If you purposely whipped up some dust in the air and started taking photos you'd see what I mean. There are some rare cases were an orb has been captured on film or video and it's entirely different. They're little balls that literally glow with light. There's nothing really that spooky about it though. Perfectly natural phenomenon! xxx

  9. I know the small "balls" are dust. At certain angles it relects the light.
However, I have never seen anything like the bigger one. My guess would be some sort of residue from a cleaning liquid? Makeup?

  11. I just attended a wedding yesterday and one of the pictures also had an orb. We all thought it was the ex-fiance of the bride who's remains were cremated and now rests on the same church were the wedding ceremony happened. He died of cancer and we all believe he's my friend's guardian angel.

  12. My theory on this is that orbs are a gathering of energy. I used to live across the street from one of the oldest cemeteries in the US. I noticed some really odd things in that apartment! There was typically a feeling of cold and a sense of 'something else' during what seemed to me to be activity.

I felt pretty calm taking the picture I posted on my blog. I honestly don't know what orbs are, but I will venture they aren't ghosts. I hope that makes you feel better. <3

  14. If you look you have one on your shoulder!
My oldest daughter has orbs in EVERY picture ever taken of her, from birth to current.

My belief from my culture is that these are your spirit guides. They are always with you, some people have more than others but they are there.

  15. I think it's usually dust, but not always. I think there may be a supernatural reason, but sometimes it's just dust. As for why they're only visible on some photos (IF they are dust), the dust may have reflected the flash or light only at a certain angle and moment.

My personal opinion? The smaller ones lower in the picture are dust, but the large one is an orb.

  17. it's not on the other photos bc it's floating dust, very interesting link here:

  18. I get them quite a lot and mostly they're either dried splashes of water or dust. After first I usually clean my lens and don't get that for a while again. Never thought it could be something "paranormal".

  19. They are actually dust particles that get hit by the light of the flash or any other light source :) kukr zajčki, k jih delaš z ogledalcem :)

  20. Vita looks happy as a clam! :D
I think the orbs are dust, too.

  21. To so odsevi od umazanije ali predmetov v okolici. Profesionalni fotografi ne posnamejo takih "duhov".

  23. If the photo was taken with a flash and the dust was reflective (glitter, eyeshadow fallout, etc) it could make a huge spot like that. I was doing a "behind the scenes" photo-shoot before a wedding once, and the photos with the makeup artist are full of them.

  24. I have some awesome photos from Savannah on the most haunted street. It looks like someone was blowing bubbles at night and I took photos. I'll try to find them for you.

  25. Orbs like that are floating dust particles that your camera can sometimes focus on. It's the type of particles you can see when a beam of sunlight is shining through a window and you can see them just floating around.

Sometimes it's enough for the camera to catch it out of focus.

  26. Interesting phenomena! The real reason is probably dust. The spooky reason is your guardian angel or your sisters! It just might be Gaia playing with the baby. She looks like she is going to burst out with a giggle. What a doll!

  27. I always thought the orbs were spots on the lens??

  28. I took some pictures from my roof and got 3 small "orbs" its only show in one picture and i took 2 at the same place without even moving. I told my sister and she said it was dust.

  29. I just say this post.

This looks like an orb to me. I would not say they are ghosts, but they are spirits (living beings who happens to take the form of orbs at the moment). You usually can differentiate them from specks of dust or water from the presence of the inner side of the circle. Orbs will have sort of rounded cells and some 'texture' inside, in pictures. water spots or dust will have a uniform look.

I have a friend who can see these things, and she taught me about spirits and their forms (i.e. we, for example, are spirits having a human experience).

Orbs are not evil. A lot of times, babies attract orbs. I have seen a few pictures involving babies, that has orbs around it. Has the baby a grandmother or grandfather, or someone close, that recently passed away?

    1. Wow, that's interesting. Thanks for sharing the info! =) No, there were no deaths in the family. Vita had both grandparents, parents and other relatives at the time the photo was taken. But as I said... My cat passed away a week before. I don't know...
