1 coat of Raindrops over 2 coats of China Glaze Recycle:
I used three different grey polishes to layer Raindrops over: Sally Hansen Wet Cement, China Glaze Recycle and Diamond Cosmetics Concrete Jungle.
As you can see Concrete Jungle is the closest to Illamasqua's base color, but is it really best to layer it over this shade? Let's see...
Well, if I'm honest, Raindrops looks better layered over any of these shades than it does on it's own. I still can't get over this sheer-ness. *shivers* I guess it depends on the taste, but I personally prefer it over Recycle. It doesn't look as original Raindrops looks (like it does layered over Wet Cement), but the shimmer is more visible this way. And here's one more reason to wear Illamasqua Raindrops layered - the shimmer is more visible when it's layered. No matter what shade of grey you choose. Let me just warn you: you have to be careful when applying it over darker shades. It can look like spilled milk... =)

I love it in combination with Concrete Jungle! I can appreciate a sheer polish, but not this one, hahah. Yay for layering :)

I think it looks best with Recycle. It makes the sparkle show up better. And yes...much better than 5 coats!

ReplyDeleteI'd totally wear it layered, I think it's a waste of polish to do more than 3 coats and that's a no for me, especially with limited editions or hard to find colors.
ReplyDeleteYour post makes me think of the manicure I just did, I just received opi's holo my private jet and I layered it over illamasqua booth which is a one coater black, cause I don't want to waste a drop of this beauty and there's just no way I would have use a 2 coater black just as a "base" color, haha.
I like the way it looks over Concrete Jungle and Recycle! I don't think I would ever wear it by itself because I'm not patient enough for 5 coats.

I agree with your final choice. I hate sheer polishes and I don't have the patience to layer something milky over something darker, but you did a great job of it!

I like it best on recycle because you can really see the contrast/ raindrops.
ReplyDeleteI hate wearing raindrops by itself because when I end up with sheer polishes I keep putting more and more on until it almost never dries or it looks really thick on my nails.
I like raindrops best over CG recycle.

ReplyDeleteI would wear it alone AND Layered. I think the sheerness is so that the glitter still shows thru all the layers...and I love that option. But I also like being able to wear it quickly..so thanks for this post!
