Let's see a color drop of this beauty. It's so pretty...

I know it's supposed to be sheer-ish. And the name suits it perfectly. But why does it have to be sooooo sheer?! Why, Illamasqua?
Illamasqua, Raindrops, 5 coats

I immediately fell in love with this one when I saw the winners of Illamasqua Nail Varnish Competition. The color is so wonderful, but there's nothing that I hate more than a sheer polish. I can't afford to apply 4 or more coats of polish. I refuse to do it, if I'm honest. Three coats of polish are my limit.
These are thin coats:

If I wasn't so utterly in love with the light grey shade and silver specks in it... and the name which goes with it so perfectly... I'd give it only 2 kisses. It's sheer, application is uneven and - you know the rest.

What do you think? Would you buy it?
Thanks for looking!

Aww what a shame. It is a gorgeous polish after all.
ReplyDeleteI love it lol but you and I always disagree on sheer polish. I lovvvvvvve sheer polishes so much. This looks so fabulous on your skin!
ReplyDeleteFive coats???? No way :( too bad, the color looks awesome.
ReplyDeletePretty, but for that price I would not expect to have to do so many coats. For my $1.99 pumpkin polish, okay, that's a novelty item, but not for a premium brand.
ReplyDeleteThat's sad...it really is a gorgeous polish.
ReplyDeleteI think I would only get it if it were available at Sephora and if I weren't broke. I'm actually okay with it being sheer, because you can just use a good ridge-filling base and that'll be that.
But with a streaky application and everything, I wouldn't want to order it from the site.
Thanks for the swatch!
Has to be sheer so that the glitter chunks don't disappear, but build as you add coats. I love this.
ReplyDeleteMan that sucks! I still kinda want to buy it and try it over an opaque grey. It's so lovely!
ReplyDeleteIt's so freaking beautiful. I'd layer it! Over, say, Orly Mirror Mirror, or something pale blue...
ReplyDeletewould look gorgeous, I think. :)
This is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe only one I want from the blogger´s collection.
Why don´t you layer it over your favorite light gray polish?
This looks lovely on you, sheer or not.
but it looks so nice, too bad it's so sheer. final result is awesome
ReplyDeletemaybe you could try layering it over a white polish or a creme with a similar base color?
ReplyDeleteI love it so much and I love that they made it sheer - 5 stars from me.
ReplyDelete5 coats? That sucks... its so pretty though! I don't have the patience for more than 3 coats.
ReplyDeletebeautiful color ... but 5 coats is too much!
ReplyDeleteThe Colour is sooooooo beautyful but five coats are really too much...
ReplyDeleteI always mess up sheer polishes u_u once i had to add more than 7 coats to make a polish opaque! It's horrible! But maybe the pretty colour will help to motivate you while applying it :).
ReplyDeleteI was about to get it but then it costs so much especially the shipping from the UK to the US. :(
ReplyDeleteFive coats? Seriously? But it's so pretty...
ReplyDelete5 coats?? mmm this color is great but... 5 coats?? it's crazy
ReplyDeleteWau! Prečudovit je! Ampak to, da je slabo prekriven bi me pa sigurno odvrnilo od nakupa :)
ReplyDeleteBoja je savršena...ali pet slojeva ;-P too much
ReplyDeleteThis polish is on my list thanks to you and Ange. I need it in my life but the price is ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteWhat if you layer this nail polish over a coat of white/nude/grey nail polish? maybe this would work? I think it's a very beautiful colour, it would be too sad not to use it :( I hate sheer nail polish as well, although there are a few colours that look quite nice when you can still see the nail underneath... but only a few :P
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful but I also am not crazy about sheer polishes. Good idea to layer this one. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I don't mind this being a four coater because it's a stunning colour.
ReplyDeleteoh wow, that's a lot of coats
ReplyDeletetoo bad you need so many coats to make it opaque, because it's a great color!
ReplyDeleteThat really is gorgeous and it looks great with your skintone. I would just layer it and let it be what it is. :)
ReplyDeleteThe same happened to me with e.l.f.'s Lilac and Mint Green, three coats and it was still too sheer for my liking, I hate that!
