Vichy Normaderm 7 Day Challenge - Results

As you may know, I started using Vichy Normaderm Tri-Activ face cream a bit more than a week ago. I've been using it twice a day (in the morning and in the evening). According to Vichy, I should be able to see results by now.

Why I purchased Vichy Tri-Activ cream?
My skin is perfect for this cream. I have problems with:
* enlarged pores
* shine
* blackheads

My currently favorite face cream (I'm gonna reveal it & talk about it some other time) is not available in stores where I live. I actually have to buy it online and I'm not to happy about that. Finding a face cream, for my type of skin, I could actually buy in my own town would be perfect. So, right after I saw Vichy Tri-Activ TV commercial for the first time, I said to myself: ''This sounds great, I need to try it.''
That's why I went to the nearest pharmacy store in hope to get a tester (sample) of it. Of course they didn't have it (they never do), so I decided to just buy it. It was 15,01 € (I don't know where they found that 1 cent) for 50 mL. There's also a smaller 30 mL tube, which costs 9,50 €.

Why I hesitated for a minute?
As I normally do, I checked the ingredients before I bought it. Here's a list of them:

AQUA, GLYCERIN, ALCOHOL DENAT., ALUMINUM STARCH OCTENYLSUCCINATE, PHENYL TRIMETHICONE, ISONONYL ISONONANOATE, NYLON-66, PENTAERYTHRITYL TETRAETHYLHEXANOATE, ISOPROPYL LAUROYL SARCOSINATE, AMMONIUM POLYACRYLDIMETHYLTAURAMIDE, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, GLYCOLIC ACID, SILICA, SALICYLIC ACID, PERLITE, C12-13 PARETH-23, C12-13 PARETH-3, CI 42090, GLYCERL ACRYLATE/ACRYLIC ACID COPOLYMER, ISOHEXADECANE, DIVINYLDIMETHICONE/DIMETHICONE COPOLYMER, SODIUM POLYACRYLATE, POLOXAMER 338, DISODIUM EDTA, CAPRYLOYL SALICYLIC ACID, ACRYLATES/C10-30 ALKYL ACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER, ACRYLAMIDE/SODIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYLTAURATE COPOLYMER, POLYSORBATE 80, PARFUM.

See it? The third ingredient. Yep, it's alcohol. I really wouldn't recommend this cream to anybody with sensitive skin (although the bottle says it is suitable for sensitive skin).

What does Vichy Normaderm Tri-Activ promise?
1. To reduce the look of imperfections.
2. 24 hour hydration.
3. Long-lasting mattifying effect.

All in all, it promises purified skin and luminous complexion.

Does it work?
After more than a week of use, I can't say that I've noticed any changes. I'm not saying that it doesn't work, I just believe that 1 week isn't enough for the changes to really show. Although it contains alcohol, it doesn't burn when I apply it. I can't talk about pros and cons at this time, but one thing is for sure... alcohol is an immediate con.

Vichy read my post about the Normaderm challenge and they kindly sent me more of their Normaderm goodies (cleansing gel, day and night cream). I'll be using the combination of this three products for 1 month and then I'll tell you all about it. One week just isn't enough. ;)

Would I recommend Vichy Normaderm Tri-Activ?
So far, yes. It's a solid face cream, not to expensive and it's also good as a make up base. And about alcohol: you'll have to decide for yourself which is the lesser evil - shiny skin or alcohol. I'll get back on this topic in one month. =)

I should also mention this: Vichy is owned by L'Oreal. You know what that means: animal testing. No bueno.

There's a poll in the sidebar about Vichy products. Please, vote!

Thank you for reading!

  1. I used to use the lotion and the soap that promised all those things and it did nothing for my face, NOTHING. Then i started using a Dior cream that mattified the face and it worked amazing (but i ran out of it and now i can't buy it again). Like one moth ago i started using the 3 step Clinique products for oily skin and i love them :) my skin feels great when i use them.

  3. Sweetie- I did not know your father was not well and in the hospital...I've been lax on my blog reading.
    Please, *please* send him my Love and get well wishes.

    As for mattifying skin, why not use a face primer instead? Clarins makes a great one. I'm currently using and liking Sothys Pore Refiner, one of my daughter's cast offs.

  5. Hi everybody. First I would like to say that I love reading your blog. It's nice to read about common interests such as animals and cosmetics and get real opinions.
    About Normaderm - I wanted to say that I checked the official Normaderm site where people publish results from users after 1 week of testing and they are pretty good. I'm lucky and don't have so problematic skin but my friend does and I wanted to give Normaderm as a present for her. To check other oponions follow this link: http://normadermizziv.vichyconsult.si/#/PAGE/PARTICIPANTS
    It's slovene but they probably have it in other languages too ...

  6. @ainos2: Thank you! And about Sothys Pore Refiner: I checked it out and I can say, it's too expensive for me at the moment. =)

    @Silva: Thank you! =) There's just one thing I'd like to say about Normaderm site where people publish their results:
    1) There's no proof people really used this cream for 7 days. It's hard to get samples and I bet they didn't all buy the cream (+ a lot of them don't have a photo to prove it).
    2) Prize: people tend to lie when it comes to gaining free stuff. Maybe that's one of the reasons this cream got great reviews.
    3) We're all different. If it works for my sister that doesn't mean it's gonna work for me as well.
    4) 7 days isn't enough to tell if the cream is good. I want to use it for at least a month. That way I can get through all the stages (hormonally) and see if there are any changes.

    Thanks for reminding me to post my own results too. =)

  7. Ok I didn't even realise Vichy was by L'Oreal. Some of Vichy's product really worked for my skin, but I will not be buying them anymore. There is NO excuse for animal testing..srsly

  9. when I saw the green tube (exfoliating gel), all the hair on my body (although there's not much :D) stood up. this fucking thing caused total havoc on my skin when I was using it, huge and painful inflamed pimples like i never had before kept popping up every day. be very careful if you're gonna be using it and stop right away if something strange happens to your skin.

    + I totally agree with Iris!

  10. Hi, I don't know a lot about ingredients, but I am also animal lover and hate animal testing. That's why I checked vichy or loreal before using their products. I found this article useful - they use some kind of reconstructed human skin for testing: http://www.invitroskin.com/_int/_en/toolbox/detail_news.aspx?tc=R_HOME_IN_VITRO_SKIN&cur=R_HOME_IN_VITRO_SKIN&topicDetail=SKINIRRITATION (very long link :))
