Cats and Christmas Trees

Here's a new Simon's Cat video. And it looks strangely familiar to me...

Shiva loved Christmas trees. This year I'll have to celebrate it without her. I miss her so much...

These two photos were taken in December of 2006. If you look at the right bottom corner, you can see a part of my other cat Lordi. He passed away in 2007. Yeah, I sure know how to ''cheer you up''. :/

How do you deal with your cats and Christmas trees?

Thanks for looking!

  3. Oh I'm so sorry for your loss :(.. On a more happy note I must say I LOVE Simon's cat!! So hillarious! We usually put something heavy in the foot of the tree and then we have a hook in the roof and a attach a fishin line to the top of the tree. There's two of them little monsters, much like Simon's cat so you have to be prepared.. :)

I'm trying to focus on the pretty/cute of the kitties instead of the sad/gone of them.

  10. We have a little 3' tree up on a shelf that the cats don't bother, but when we put the "real" tree up, they're always under it. We try to only put cat-safe ornaments within their reach. LOL Cute kittehs. Love the Simon's Cat vid!

  12. Gorgeous photos. We put up two trees. An old one in the part of the house the cats prefer so that they don't get in the newer one and tear it up and ruin the "nice" ornaments

  13. I remember when your Shiva passed, I could tell that you loved her a lot. My youngest has gone missing for 32 days now and it hurts bad. I really miss her. She loved the Christmas trees too :)
My oldest sleeps under the trees now, almost protecting it, hehe.

  14. Hey you :)

My Pixie used to thrash the xmas tree when she was a kitten. She jumped on it, managed to get some of the decoration off and played with it...She destroyed the xmas tree.
When she got older she stopped doing this...But this year ( after her surgery ) she has become REAL playful again. So we'll see...

Tom in the other hand is completely, mortified-ly afraid of xmas trees... He hides from it, gets so stressed he has his tongue out... And he is like this ever since he was a kitten... So we have to mount the tree very slowly so he gets used to it...it's so funny...poor kitteh...

  15. My cat doesn't bother the Christmas tree. He has forgotten himself a time or two and played with a few ornaments, which I found on the floor the next morning but that is the extent of his Christmas tree hell raising. :)

  16. It's going to be a tough Christmas for you. Hope your Father is doing well. I've only had a cat go up a tree once. Thankfully throughout the years they never bothered the tree. They'd just lay under it and probably get the warmth of the lights.

  20. Haha, that video sure looks familiar! :DD We have a real christmas tree, so our cats always try to eat that... The lowest branches are always bold. :'D Now they´re so fat they can´t climb to the tree anymore, but they´re still doing their best to knock it over! :D We have to tie the tree up to our ceiling...

I´m sorry you don´t have your cats with you this christmas. :'( Try to have merry christmas, I´m sending you warm hugs! :)

  21. Sorry for your loss, it's never easy is it.

This is the first Christmas with a tree. I never had one cause I was afraid they would eat and tear it apart. However, knock on wood, it seems to stay upright and we even put electric lights in it. We bought some cheap ornaments too that we'll try right before the not so cheap ones. The tree is also a plastic tree that costed about 200 SEK so not a fortune. I'm would be more worried my cats would get hurt. But so far, it's all good.

  23. such a cutie. I feel your pain, this Christmas is the first without my Marley, i have so many pics of him I took last year in the tree. cat's are so crazy like that!

  24. None of my cats are paricularly interested in the tree other than sniffing it when it's first brought in, but they do like just lying under it. So I ask them if they're posing as Christmas presents...

  25. Aw cute!

My cat doesn't go near the tree. She doesn't do much but sleep and try to swipe you when you step over her actually.... lol

  26. I haven't had a christmas tree since 2007. At that time, I just had Kitty--he destroyed the bottom half of the tree and broke all of the ornaments. Now I have 4 cats. I know that it would be a disaster and a money pit so I'm not taking a chance this year. I would love to have a tree next year. Maybe i'll take some advice from your readers and rig it to the ceiling!

Your Shiva is so beautiful...may her spirit be with you this Christmas.
