He Was Here

Yep. George R. R. Martin was here, in Slovenia.

I didn't go to the signing, but I don't regret it. I hear it's been very crowded there. =) He visited Predjama Castle I already told you about a year ago. Did I mention this castle is haunted? Anyway... this is what Martin wrote about the castle on his ''Not A Blog'' blog:

'' ... On the way home, we stopped at the most amazing castle, built into the mouth of a huge cave. Definitely have to model some castle in Westeros on this one, it was an eyefull, especially by night. I was given a personal tour, presented with a beautiful illuminated scroll, and asked to pres ny hands into wet cement, ala Mann's Chinese Theater. And then we had the most amazing medieval Slovenian feast. ... ''

Now I'm gonna make myself some warm cocoa, tell my cats to stop bugging me, go to bed and read ... This book is gooooood!

P.S: I'm almost at the end of the second book (A Clash of Kings) and I'm already worried about what I'll be reading when I finish them all. I was thinking about reading them in English as well, but our local library doesn't have them in orignial (non translated) version. Bummer.

Thanks for looking!

  1. I have the first three books, but they're in storage, so I've reserved them from the library. Can't wait to read them again.

I'm not a big fan of e-books myself, but maybe you can get the English copies that way. As for what to read after, I enjoyed Robin Hobb's Liveship Trilogy a lot (I have to read the other books that are in the same world, but I've heard good things), or you could try Roger Zelazny's Amber Chronicles, of which the fist series is the best.

  2. I'm watching the series based on his books on cable TV. I'm enjoying the hell out of it. Big problem is that it ended for the season now. I'd love to read his books but they're so thick with so many characters. I love to read but can't remember crap anymore. I can never get characters straight. There's so many of them. Glad your enjoying the book. I'd love someone to read them to me. Maybe I should buy them on tape! That castle is amazing looking. I don't like crowds so I'd never go to a signing.

  10. I just finished the fourth book. I didn't realize when I started reading that the series isn't finished yet!! Just a warning, (no spoilers though) the 4th book was frustrating to me. It was originally way too long so the author decided to split it into 2 books. This would be fine if it was a chronological split but he split it by geography!!! The 4th book is only people who are currently in the south of Westeros. This means nothing from Tyrion, John Snow or Daenerys who are my favorite characters!!!

  11. Hello! I found out about your blog today and since I'm procrastinating, I decided to keep on reading. I reached this post and I'm not sure if you're still gonna read this comment but I just wanted to let you know about this website that sells all sorts of books and the shipping is always free: http://bookdepository.com/. I know how hard it is to find English books in most standard european bookstores (I'm Portuguese, btw) and I always buy my books from this site. They're fast and reliable. And reading these posts made me wanna buy the saga. I've watched the series and I haven't decided to buy the books yet because I know that as soon as I start reading them I won't be able to stop and it will make me hate the series.

  12. @santapaciência: Hi! I always read all the comments. =) I already know about book depository and I think it's a great site. Thank you for sharing anyway! <3 The books are SO MUCH better than the TV series. Really. =) But isn't that always the case? ;)
