How To: Fish Egg Manicure

Continuing my 'how to' story. =) Fish egg manicure AKA caviar manicure. Ciate creative director came up with the idea of micro beads over nail polish and is very sensitive about the use of word 'caviar' when it's not made with Ciate products. Hence fish egg manicure.

You can buy Ciate Caviar Manicure Kit in three different colors for £18 or you can use any of your nail polish shades and buy some micro beads in any craft/art store for a couple of bucks. The decision is in your hands. This is how I beaded my nails...
How To Fish Egg Manicure
1 - Paint your nails with the desired nail polish. Thicker polishes will work better for this.
2 - Prepare your beads and apply another layer of polish.
3 - Dip your nail into the jar with beads while nail polish is still wet.
4 - Arrange the beads on your nails to fit your polish line and press them on the nail gently. Repeat steps on other nails.

Finished look:

I applied a top coat over my fish egg manicure and the color of the beads started to melt. Well, it actually changed color. Interesting, huh?

Fish egg manicure is interesting and quite fun to do, but it's not very practical. I can't see myself wearing it, but I know some of you might like it.

P.S: This is part I on my fish egg mani. Part II is coming soon... =)

What are your thoughts on fish egg/caviar manicure? Would you wear it?

Thanks for looking and commenting!

  1. I'd say that Ciate is sensitive about it because they're trademarking something which they did not invent.

    1. Oh, that's right. I remember now. I read about it already, but totally forgot. Thanks for reminding me! =)

  2. Hi there!
Oh well, people have been asking over and again how do I feel about fish egg nails and plush nails. Big no-no-no. I guess that glitter is the "biggest" amount of thingies I can stand on my nails. Stamping is ok too. But I can deal with stickers, rhinestones or anything else. Plus I find they take quite a lot of effort and patience. But, hey, it's nice to look at them on somebody else's nails! =) Must say I loooved the polish colour, though.

  3. Great job :) It's not my cup of tea and I wouldn't wear it, but I can't wait to try out their new velvet mani! I'm still waiting for my velvet powder :/

    1. Buy flocking powder from your local craft store and apply over wet nail polish :-)

  4. Oooh, I like it even better with the colours melted :D .

When I first saw I was like: "How on earth did she do that so perfectly?"

  5. It's fun but so impractical...

  6. I think it looks pretty but isn't practical. Can you imagine going to a public bathroom and beads pinging off all over the floor as you take your clothes down?!

I like the colour change when you used the top coat, though! Pretty.

  7. It's a little too pink for me ;)

I think yout could get also an interestening finish with a different colour beneath the beads. Maybe with darkblue or something else...?

    Would you try it? :D

    LG :)

  8. Just to be clear that my comment is in no way related to you nails or your manicuring skills/technique, but that is one of the ugliest things I have ever seen. It looks like some sort of infestation. I would expect pus running out of these thing if they were on my nails. Creepy.

  9. I would NEVER wear it on a daily basis just because i've heard they only last like a day. It's an edgy twist for a special event though.

    1. I didn't wear these beads as a manicure. I can't stand anything 3D on my nails. It gets caught in my hair and it just makes me nervous. =) I removed it like I would remove any glitter nail polish. Cotton pad soaked in acetone/nail polish remover.

  11. I wouldn't wear that myself. I'm sure I'd find myself picking them all off, one by one :D

  12. I don't have much positive skills using micro beads in any manicure, they ping off easily =/

  13. I don't think I will wear this ever just because I'm lazy. But I love your manicure. It looks really interesting.

  14. I love the idea of these, but they just are not practical. I do really like the look of how they melted with top coat though.

  15. Wow, that looks amazing on your nails but I really don't like the look at all! I would pick them all off in like an hour, LOL. Looks lovely on you despite my aversion to it :)

  16. Ciaté didn't came up with the idea of the caviar manicure. It was Pattie Yankee and the Dashing Diva for the Cushnie et Ochs fashion show over eighteen months ago. :( Ciaté now also claims to have invented the furry manicure which they call velvet manicure but Jen from The Polishaholic has made a furry manicure already in March.

I love your fish egg manicure though Sasha! :)

    1. Yep, Kasey Campa already reminded me of that. =) Thanks for mentioning it. I will make sure to state this in my next fish egg mani as well.

  20. I don't get the fascination. It looks cool, but I'd get annoyed with it when the little balls start falling off. I bet it's a pain to get off too.

  21. That look is very interesting!
I will try this on a special day :)

  22. I tried them....they lasted only for a minute, lol! But I do think it's interesting. Did putting the top coat help them stick better?

  23. I actually quite like it with the color change from the topcoat!
