Don't you just hate it when you realize that the polishes from the same brand which have the same name are actually quite different? It happened to me a while back when I saw Essence Caribbean Sea in the store. It didn't look right, but it was beautiful in the bottle, so I bought it. When I came home, I compared it to my old bottle of Caribbean Sea. I was right. They are two different polishes.

Color drop of the old (on the left) and the new (on the right) Caribbean Sea.

Index & ring finger: Essence, Caribbean Sea, 3 coats (new version)
Middle finger & pinky: Essence, Caribbean Sea, 2 coats (old version)

I like the new version better when I look at the bottle but my love for it stops there. It looks deeper and a tad darker from the old version, but the formula is much worse. The new version needs 3 coats for full opacity while the old one requires only two. New Caribbean Sea is thinner and less opaque. It also looks a bit more frosty (which I'm not too crazy about). If we were looking for dupes, we'd definitely say these aren't. So I think it's safe to say they're not the same polish. Same name, different formula. Ah, I wish I just skipped this one.

This is not my first 'same name, different polish' experience though. I owned two Icing Laura's Fave shades (one was blue-ish and the other green-ish turquoise), two Essence Underwater (one medium blue shimmer and the other navy blue with glass flecks) and Spicy (shimmer and creme brown) shades.
Do you also own any nail polish shades from the same brand with the same name which are actually different?
Thanks for looking and commenting!

Joj Catrice tudi to dela. Hate that! ;) Se pa ne morem odličit, ker mi je bolj ušeč!
ReplyDeleteAw, too bad you regret getting it.
ReplyDeleteJudging solely from the photos, I'd say they're both beautiful, although each in its own, different way... but a 3 coater? As someone (probably you :D ) said, there are so many quality polishes available, one does not need to settle for a three-coater.
There are two orlys in my local boots in the same display with same name that look totally different! I cant remember the name of it now but next time i go in will take a pic, i agree, the old polish has a nicer look to it
ReplyDeleteI hate it when they do that also Catrice does this. Just give it a new name or add something to the make it clear it is different.
ReplyDeletereally like your site!! the your nails look awesome!
ReplyDeletegreets from holland
Prekrasna su mi oba! Podsjećaju na novi ANNY Blue bikini girl
ReplyDeleteBoth are gorgeous *-*
ReplyDeleteNe morem se čist odločit, obe verziji sta mi blazno lepi.
ReplyDeleteThat is just plain annoying. Somehow I felt like Essence only recycled names for totally different colors, but now they are just putting 2.0 polishes out just like Catrice.
ReplyDeleteI love this nail polish for summer (I have the old version) and I'm wearing it today on my toes!
