Another day, another beautiful polish. I just got this Make Up Academy nail polish in Stormy Skies last week and I've already established a love/hate relationship with it. Wanna know why? Keep reading.
MUA - Make Up Academy, Stormy Skies, 2 coats
This polish is my first Make Up Academy product I've tried so far (along with 3 other nail polish shades), so I really had no idea of the brand's quality. I was both pleasantly and unpleasantly surprised. The first thing I could notice was gorgeous color - Stormy Skies is a brownish green packed with green, golden and bronze micro shimmer. It's dark, but it doesn't look black and it constantly looks like it's lit from within. Yep, that micro shimmer does that.
Let's continue with the bottle, which I don't like for two reasons: it's design looks cheap (yeah, I know it's a cheap polish, but it doesn't have to be so obvious) and it's small. It contains 6.2 mL of polish only. The next thing I REALLY didn't like is the brush. It is horrible. Just horrible. It's short, scratchy, non-flexible and just a pain in the rear to work with. I find it best to hold it almost horizontally while painting nails, but it still leaves deep brush lines. As you can see on photos, I've managed to get a nice effect by leaving enough polish on the brush to flood the lines + I added some Essence Better Than Gel Nails Top Sealer over it.
Color isn't the only thing I love about this polish. I adore it's formula and opacity. I can't understand how they could find the best and the worst of the nail polish world. Throw a great formula and a terrible brush in a cheap bottle and you get MUA Nail Varnish. No, it's not as bad as it sounds. My love towards this polish beats the hate I feel towards the brush. Overall, I'd still give it thumbs up. After all, it is GORGEOUS!

I feel exactly the same about some i the elf minis i recently got, am considering emptying out some of the orly minis i dont like & decanting them! Your photos look fab, you would never know the brushes were so rubbish

DeleteThis is such a gorgeous colour, I will definitely pick this up. I agree the bottles and brushes are a bit crap, but I've loved every MUA polish I've tried, they really are excellent formulas and colours! :-) Lovely pictures too.

ReplyDeleteKje pa imamo Make up Academy? Zaljubila sem se v eno senčko, ampak se pri najboljši volji ne morem spomniti kje imamo to znamko v Sloveniji ali v kakšnem price range je. :S Barva laka je božanska, omg! Mislim da bi tudi nemogoč čopič preživela za tak odtenek. Nikoli se jih ne naveličam.
ReplyDeleteZaenkrat še nikjer. Mislim, da bodo MUA laki kmalu na Ličila.si. Drugače pa res ne vem, če kje držijo to znamko pri nas. Je pa to v rangu ELF produktov, kar se cen tiče.

Thanks for your message! I'm glad you like my blog. =) Yes, I take the photos myself. I use my old Traveler DC-8300 camera most of the time, except for photos of my MU - I use Nikon D3000 for that.
