Review: Catrice Ultimate Lip Glow

Sometimes I go to the store and buy just one item. Not because I need it, but because it makes me feel better. I know that sounds weird, but I'm sure you do it too. Come on, admit it! =) The last ''come on, put me in a better mood''  product I bought was Catrice Ultimate Lip Glow - Lip Colour Intensifier. And it wasn't a miss at all. Here's what Catrice says about it:

''Simply brilliant: the new Catrice Ultimate LipGlow – Lip Colour Intensifier not only smoothes your lips and makes them shine, it also intensifies your own personal lip color – a transparent, fresh and natural look in a truly unique color.'' (Catrice)

Catrice Ultimate Lip Glow comes in one shade - One Shade Fits All. One shade to rule them all.

The Lip Glow itself looks like a lollipop. It's somewhere between orange, red and pink, so I'll just say it's coral and translucent. It smells great, but the taste isn't too pleasant. I don't mind, it's not meant for eating it anyway. I expected it to be soft, but it's quite hard. Not like any other lipbalm or lipstick (or whatever this qualifies as). That's why I always use my lipbalm underneath - just for easier application and moisturized lips. This won't make your lips super soft. It will just give them color. That's it.

I applied Lip Glow to the back of my hand... Not much color, right?

What I love about this product is that it makes all the difference when applied to my lips. I have quite pale lips which are in desperate need for some color. I hate wearing lipstick and/or ligloss though. My hair gets stuck to my lips, I eat it off, I smear it all over my fingers, leave half of it on my tea cup... you get the idea. I'm just not comfortable wearing anything too hardcore on my lips. That's when Catrice Lip Glow comes in. It gives me enough color so I don't look dead, but the feeling is much better than with lipstick or lipgloss. It's like you're wearing nothing. Some lipbalm + Lip Glow and I'm good to go.

I got Catrice Lip Glow for a little more than 5 €. I'm really glad I wanted to feel better that day and purchased this one. It's my favorite color lip product by far. I love it!

What do you think of Catrice Lip Glow? Would you try it?

Thanks for looking and commenting!

  1. I've bought it too a little while ago, and I found out, that if you overdo it (e.g. reapply a few times during the morning) your lips get really brightly pink :-D A really really bright pink.

    1. Good to know. I'll try to not overdo it, but now I'm really interested what would that bright pink look like on me. =D

    2. Well, it looked horrid on me anyway... the best thing was, I wore it like that for half a day at work, because I didn't have time to look in a mirror :-D

  2. I like this kind of lip balms. Just a little bit of colour. Good for everyday use.

  3. This reminds me a lot of the L'oreal lip glow! Its the same colour and does the same thing, and I also love it for the same reason you love your catrice one =]

    1. I think this one is cheaper though. And Catrice is also animal friendly, so it's a better choice. =)

  4. What an interesting product! I do like to wear lipstick, not so much of a lipgloss lover though. But sometimes I'm really looking for this subtle hint of color that makes you appear not-dead too. ;o) As Catrice is not sold in Brazil, I'll keep with my Rosebud lipbalm. It has a similar effect and the plus of really moisturizing my lips.

    1. I know a lot of girls here are dying to get their hands on Brazilian beauty products, so maybe you can arrange a swap with one of them... Just a suggestion. =)

  6. I am not a fan of these faint coloured lip sticks but I must admit that the packaging wins my heart over. Looks yummy, too!

  7. Wow, this seems like my dream product! My lips are quite pale as well, and I don't like wearing lip glosses and lipsticks pretty much for the same reasons you mentioned. I will definitely try this out! How permanent is the effect? Does it wear off or fade out evenly?

    1. I'd say the effect lasts for a couple of hours, because it's not a very creamy product. It won't stain your tea cup or glass as much as lipstick. It's not sticky, but you'll have to use a balm underneath. It fades away evenly on me. And that's why I love it so much.=)

  8. haha, you remind me of me. every time I feel bad or anxious or sad, I go and buy only one thing, usually rather inexpensive, like a Golden Rose lipstick, Essence or Catrice eyeshadow, or hobby art glitter, or I order some 2 dollar earrings/necklace on ebay =) it really makes me feel better, and isn't hard on my wallet =)

I haven't tried that one yet, I'm not sure if I'm going to though, I rather love my lipstick ^^ and I'm not too keen on pink lips either =P

  9. haha yes I do that too, usually a nail polish, maybe a lip gloss now that I'm obsessed with lip gloss.
I'm glad you like it, a lot of people don't seem to like this gloss/glow stick! I guess it's because they expect a lot more color and moisture. I only own one from Maybelline, but as I said before, I don't use it now that I'm into lip glosses, but I loved the pop of color last summer :) (when it's so warm, you really don't want to use lipstick or lipgloss).

  10. This is a lot like Maybelline ColorSensational Popsticks in Tropical Pink! I'd even say Maybelline has a teeeeeny tiny bit more pigment in it (I own it and I swatched the Catrice one in store recently), and as previously mentioned if you keep reapplying you end up with radioactive pink lips! Which looks different on everyone, but it actually has helped me overcoming my lipstick fear because I'm just like you, absolutely not comfortable with wearing anything more than a lipbalm, which can bother me too quite a bit haha! Also, the Maybelline is quite drying, is this one drying as well? It keeps the glossy feel to it for a bit and then just becomes a stain (even with lipbalm). And, if you apply several coats, the stain fades as a circle on the brim of the lips. ): If you do just 1-2 coats it's not the problem, though, but I like how jelly-like it is! Maybelline has several awesome colors, too, like orange, lighter pink, darker orange, some of them have shimmer/flecks in them. But I bought mine because all my childhood I've been obsessed with the neon orangey-pink transcluescent color. You know, many things in the 90s were neon and transcluescent. :) Plus, the packaging and the bullet itself reminded me of... a crystal from Crash Bandicoot games. So I fell for it and grabbed one. X)

    1. I haven't tried the Maybelline one. I wouldn't say this one is drying, since I apply it over lipbalm, but it's definitely not moisturizing. My lips do get a bit drier after a couple of hours, but I don't know if that's Lip Glow's fault. Catrice one doesn't feel like gloss, not even at the beginning. It has a pretty hard texture. I know about the fading where you end up with ''I applied lip liner only'' look. That's why I don't over do it. Never. =D

    2. Oh, it reminded me, the Catrice one is really rock hard! Even the Maybelline one is much softer, which is weird considering the lack of moisturizing properties as well.
