Review: L'Oreal Preference Wild Ombres No.1

I'm not gonna lie, I like ombre hair. I know some people think it looks like you haven't done your hair in a very long time, but I don't really care. I like it and I wanted to try it. And I did. I bought L'Oreal Preference Wild Ombres in Ombre No.1 (for light to dark brown hair) and hoped for the best.

Before and after... which got me thinking it might not be a good idea to dye after all.

Here's what you get in the package. As you can see, you also get a little plastic brush for the application of the color. And it works quite well.

I mixed the color and applied it to the lower third of my hair with the brush. I didn't really know what would happen, so I didn't dare to go too high... I almost expected my hair to turn blonde or even worse - orange. I applied more on my ends and less toward the roots. I left the color on for about 45 minutes. The result isn't exactly as I imagined it to be, but it could be much worse. It's fun to see my hair in a different color without changing it too much. I still think my hair looks best when it's dark brown... the tips can be a bit lighter, I don't mind. Here's a photo of my ''new'' hair. A bad one though. I couldn't photograph my hair properly to show you the way it looks from behind, but you'll get the idea. Chocolate brown to dark chocolate to dark brown. I know some people will think I haven't dyed my hair in a very long time, but I kind of like it.

What do you think of ombre hair? Would you/did you try it?

Thanks for looking and commenting!

  2. Based on the picture I dare say it turned out really nice. I think ombre hair can be interesting when done in this more "natural" way, but mostly I see people with dark brown hair on the roots and nearly-white-blond hair on the tips, or lower part, whatever. I might try it if no blond tips were involved. Hehehe... =)

  3. It looks nice, very subtle but you don't want to go too dramatic at first! I've been ombre-ing my hair for years now and all I simply do is get a really light ash blonde colour and apply it only onto my ends. My hair was originally as dark as yours but now after many times of dying the ends light ash blonde (if you do it again, it's important to look for the word "ash" as that will take the copper/brassness colour out)my hair is a really nice ombre. I even put highlights at the front of my face and it has made such a nice difference. If you are serious about doing it I can give you a step by step explanation! :) (Sorry this comment was so long lol)

    1. =) I don't mind copper-ish tone in my hair, since it comes naturally. But I doubt I'll be doing this anytime soon, it's just too damaging and my ends aren't happy.

  6. I just love you hair like that! It's very trendy. In Argentina (I have a friend from there) everybody is doing it, they call it californian highlights:)So cute!

  7. Happy New Year Nihrida! I love ombre. That's pretty much the color of my hair right now. I'm thinking of going blonde (just to try it once) but I really like black hair.

  8. I like ombre hair as well. I think it's pretty obvious when someone has an ombre or when they haven't colored their hair in a while. Looks good on you!

  9. I really dislike this ombre trend, but yours is not that bad at all. The transition isn't very smooth, but at least it doesn't turn too light. Maybe it's just me, but to me all these hairstyles with lighter tips make the hair ends look damaged (usually hair gets naturally lighter at the ends as they split and grow thinner). I like your hair way better when it's all darker though.

  10. I say go for it! When it comes to nails, hair, makeup, clothes do what you like. We were put on this earth to learn to love ourselves not to please others!

  11. I like the way this turned out! I actually haven't even heard of this set, I might have to see if we have it here, cause I would love to change the look of my hair, without dying all of it!
