Weekly Sum-Up #50

R. I. P. Tara (1998-2013)
Tara
Tara was my sister's dog. I can still remember the day I first saw her although it was almost 15 years ago (I was in elementary school at that time). She didn't live at my house, but was still a pretty important part of my life. Rest in peace, Tara.

Tara's death made me appreciate my time with the furry ones even more. We sometimes forget our days together aren't gonna last forever. If nothing else, it's good to be reminded - everything ends and each day counts. Give your pets a huge hug and a kiss on their noses. Add one for me too.

Lacura Jeans isn't the only polish I wore in the last couple of weeks, but it is the only one worth mentioning.  I adore the color. Period.

Talking about nail polish: Models Own came out with a new collection called Ice Neon.

''The only way to keep fluoro really bright is to KEEP IT COLD! We've packed this collection in specially-designed frosted bottles that you should keep refrigerated to protect the intense fluoro colour from fading. These on-trend neon shades bring summer alive with fluoro flavour, bold and bright.
Available exclusively in our Bottleshop (Westfield London, White City) on March 9th, online at modelsownit.com from March 20th (pre-order from March 1st for guaranteed March 20th UK delivery) and in Boots stores nationwide from March 22nd.'' (Models Own)

Models Own Ice Neon Collection

I'm not too fond of the idea of keeping my nail polish in refrigerator. I keep my food there and that's it. Or maybe I should buy a special little fridge just for nail polish and other cosmetic related stuff. Meh, I don't think so.

I'm much more interested in the new Sally Hansen Lustre Shine nail color shades. I'll most probably never see any of them on my nails, but it's OK to dream. Besides they all look better on these promo pictures than on the swatches I've seen. If only they looked like this on nails as well...

...aaaaand another 6 new shades for Spring 2013 from FNUG. I miss more vibrant colors for spring, but I can see all the shades as FNUG shades. Just the way they are - edgy and muted. First Mover is my favorite.

For those of you who wondered what will I think of the 10 Blush Palette from Ebay: I tried it a couple of times and I have mixed feelings about it. The problem is not all of the shades are equaly soft/pigmented so you never know how much product you're gonna end up with on the brush. Some of the shades are pretty good, some of them are just too wild for me to wear and some are too hard. You can try it, but don't expect too much from it. I personally prefer MUA Blushers. They're cheap, much softer and pigmented.

Book I'm currently reading: Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb. I read the whole Farseer trilogy in Slovene and I loved it so much I bought all three books via Book Depository (I recommend it; they offer a lot of books, have good prices and free worldwide shipping). I also got the first book from The Tawny Man trilogy. What can I say. I love Fitz.

Jared Leto: my latest man crush. Very talented, artistic and overall special person. With a very bad taste in women (in my opinion of course). He starred in one of my favorite movies - Requiem for a Dream and has his own band called 30 Seconds to Mars. I can't believe he's 41 years old already...

Posts of the week(s):

Sandra from Psychosandra is a really awesome make up artist. Gold Line is just one of her latest looks that left me speechless. I want to try it out, buy I don't think I have the eyes or skills to pull it off.

What are your most common reasons to buy a certain cosmetic product? Rowena from Beauty and the Bullshit listed 10 Worst Reasons to Buy Cosmetics. And I think she's right. I truly recommend you to read her blog regularly. I bet you'll find a lot of information there.

Try imagining China Glaze Strawberry Fields Forever on steroids. What do you get? Based on the post by Elsa from Like a Candy Shop, it would look a lot like Shaka in Burlesque

The Swatchaholic introducted me to the new brand called NailNation 3000 with her swatches of Eve nail polish shade. Is this love?

What kind of deodorant are you using? Do you make sure it's aluminum-free before you buy it? Here's Killer Colours' post on What's so great about natural deodorants. It certainly got me thinking.

Both Fashion Polish and Vampy Varnish had some problems concering copyright. Read their Story of Right and WrongA Tale of Large Companies, Small Bloggers and Copyright Infringement. While you're at the Fashion Polish blog, take a look at the new Kiko Sugar Mat Collection. Looks really good, right?

piCture pOlish - Honey Dew

Time for another piCture pOlish shade. Honey Dew is a nice ''sweet'n light juicy'n bright'' mint green shade. It was actually one of my favorites when I looked at the polishes I received in the piCture pOlish package. Unfortunately it was the only PP shade that disappointed me (a little) so far. Read on to find out why.

I haven't had any bad experience with piCture pOlish polishes until I tried Honey Dew. I wouldn't call my encounter with it a complete failure, but it hasn't quite met my expectations. The formula of this one was causing me some troubles at the application. It wasn't too thin, neither would I call it goopy. It was just harder to apply in comparison to other piCture pOlish shades I've tried until now. I needed to apply 3 coats to even it out. Let me just remind you: these polishes are normally of great quality and I agree my expectations were pretty high. It's still a good polish just not perfect.

Max Factor Make Up Set

I purchased this Max Factor make up set in November last year as I already told you in one of my Weekly Sum-Ups. I had other more interesting things to show you in this time, but I still owe you some thoughts on this set and swatches of the polishes.

The set contains 5 full size products: three Max Effect Mini Nail Polishes in Hot Pink, Cloudy Blue and Intense Plum; Creme Puff powder in Translucent; 2000 Calorie mascara and a mini Kohl Pencil in Black. A little sample of Face Finitiy Foundation was added too, but I never tried it, 'cause I don't care for it. There were different sets available with different products and I chose this one mainly because of the 2000 Calorie mascara. I payed a little more than 9 € for the set.
Max Factor Make Up Set

Creme Puff - I really cannot convince myself to use this powder. As soon as I opened the package, I knew we won't be getting along very well. The scent of this powder is so strong, it's almost like a perfume. No, really. I've never ever stumbled upon a face powder with a scent like this one. I think I'll keep it in my make up box and never touch it again. Or who knows: maybe some day, when the smell is gone. ;)

2000 Calorie - I've purchased my first 2000 Calorie mascara back in 2011. It has actually been my favorite mascara for a while and later it was replaced by NYX Doll Eye mascara and then Essence Big Lashes and MUA Mega Volume mascara. But let's get back to the MF one. I know what 2000 Calorie is supposed to do with my lashes and this one just doesn't do it. It looks old and dried up. Looks like Max Factore people picked up all the old, non-usable mascaras, put them in the MU set and started counting the money. I really don't like this one and don't know what to do with it. It looks and feels old. It's good to go straight into the trash.

Kohl Pencil - A quite mediocre product. It's not very black (the pigmentation isn't good), it's soft, but not as soft as my Essence Black Mania pencil. It smudges easily and the staying power isn't that good at all. Meh. There are tons of better pencils out there. I wouldn't give this one a second look.

Max Effect Mini Nail Polish - These polishes are ridiculously small and quite expensive. I believe they're around 4 €. Way too much for this amount of polish, don't you think? Small bottle isn't the only downside of these polishes. The thing I hate the most in nail polish - low opacity. I don't think they're worth buying except for one little gem in the collection - Fantasy Fire

Well, I believe this is the end for me and Max Factor. I've never liked this brand very much anyway. Mediocre products for a rather high price, plus their involvment in the animal testing. No more for me, please.

How To: Saran Wrap Manicure

Another one of my not so inovative/helpful tutorials. Hope you like it nonetheless.
How To: Saran Wrap Manicure

1 - You'll need two different nail polish shades, a piece of saran wrap (plastic wrap) and a top coat. I used BYS in Pink Panic and Matte Purple.
2 - Apply your base color and wait for it to dry.
3 - Cut a piece of plastic wrap.
4 - Form the wrap into a ball.
5 - Apply your second nail polish shade.
6 - Gently tap over your nail with the plastic ball while the polish is still wet.
7 - Repeat step 6 on all nails.
8 - Use cotton swab dipped in acetone/nail polish remover to clean your cuticles.
9 - Add top coat and you're done!

Ebay Buy: Fake Ecotools Bamboo 6 Piece Eye Brush Set

This is my not so recent Ebay buy and I wasn't sure whether to post about it or not. Until today. Why not. I share my good and not so good buys with you and this one is somewhere in the middle. I wanted EcoTools Bamboo 6 Piece Eye Brush Set for quite a while. The prices here in Slovenia are ridiculous - 12 € for a set that costs 8 USD (~ 6 €) online. That's half the price. And that's also the main reason I bought the set online instead of going to my local drug store. At the time I haven't even imagined of receiving a fake set. I know there are MAC fakes, but Ecotools. I had no idea. This is the brush set I received.
Ebay Buy: Fake Ecotools Bamboo 6 Piece Eye Brush Set

I'm not sure anymore what was the reason that got me thinking it might be a fake set. I belive it was a comparison of the pouch and it's logo with some other pouch I've seen on the internet. I did a little googling, wondering if they changed the logo style, and there you go. I found a great post on Street Love on How to check if your Ecotools brush set is fake. There was my proof. My eye brush set is a fake.
Ebay Buy: Fake Ecotools Bamboo 6 Piece Eye Brush Set

The logo wasn't the only sign of it's fakeness. It was basically everything the post above mentioned. Everything from the label on the packaging, label on the pouch and the burnt-on logo.
Ebay Buy: Fake Ecotools Bamboo 6 Piece Eye Brush Set

The damage has already been done and I could have just thrown my fake set in the garbage, but I wanted to try it out first. OK, the quality of the brush handles and the logo... it was off. On the other hand, the bristles were so soft and silky. I used my Sleek Oh So Special Eyeshadow Palette and MUA Mega Volume Mascara and make this eye look. Oh, I also used one other brush - my favorite angled liner brush KIM E131
Ebay Buy: Fake Ecotools Bamboo 6 Piece Eye Brush Set Make Up

Ebay Buy: Fake Ecotools Bamboo 6 Piece Eye Brush Set Make Up

Although the brushes are rather poorly made, I really like the softness of the bristles. The brushes are very easy to work with and pick up the eyeshadow well. Blending is easy due to the silkiness of the brushes. I'm almost embarrassed to say I like this set very much. The only thing I miss is the angled liner brush. If it was included in this set, then it would be perfect for traveling and I wouldn't need any other brush for my eye make up.

Have you tried any EcoTools brushes? What are your thoughts on them?

piCture pOlish - Atomic by Samarium's Swatches

Can you believe it's Friday again? It seems like weeks just fly by. Anyways, it's time for another piCture pOlish shade. This one is another collaboration shade called Atomic
''Atomic was created with Sarah from Samarium's Swatches  and forms part of our Collaboration collection.  Sarah requested to create a shade based on her love of the Samarium element - of course!  For those of you not in the know 'Samarium' element is a silvery white metal!  So that is what was fashioned!  And yes Atomic is totally explosive...  Atomic is a platinum silver/white metallic holo (scattered) and has no glitter. Atomic contains a holographic shimmer to create a magical shade, complex with a lot going on!'' (piCture pOlish)
Picture Polish in Atomic

Atomic may look like an ordinary silvery white frosty shade at first glance, but it's much more than that. It's actually a quite complex shade which is unfortunately hard to capture on camera. I tried with tilting the bottle in a million different ways and the photo below is the best I got. You can see the scattered holographic shimmer and the main color of it. What you're missing is the bronze/pink sheen under a certain angle. Again one of those 'have to see it in real life' shades.
Picture Polish in Atomic

piCture pOlish, Atomic, 3 coats
Picture Polish in Atomic

I used 3 coats for my swatches because let's face it, it looks better on camera. In real life it's a 2-3 coater. Some of you might even be satisfied with one coat. I expected it to be more on a sheer side, but I'm glad I was wrong. It applied really nicely and the formula is great. People at piCture pOlish did a great job by capturing the beauty of Samarium while keeping the quality level they're known for. It's not my type of shade because I think it makes my hands look old, but I'd definitely recommend it to everyone who like to wear shades like Atomic.

I believe I've never posted a list of ingredients of piCture pOlish polishes. Here they are:

Ebay Buy: 10 Blush Palette

Here's one of my recent cosmetic Ebay buys: a blush palette with 10 different shades - simply called a 10 Blush Palette. I saw it on Ebay many times and I also googled for some review. A couple of them were pretty good so I thought of trying it myself as well. Here it is.
Ebay Buy: 10 Blush Palette

The palette comes in a hard plastic outer casing and the part between the shades it actually made of thicker paper. Very cheap packaging, but it works. The palette isn't hard to open and you won't have to ruin your manicure to get to your favorite shade. Still, don't expect too much of it. If you're a package 'freak', you won't be satisfied.

This ingredients list seems a bit off to me, but I'm no expert...
Ebay Buy: 10 Blush Palette Ingredients

As I mentioned before, I read some good reviews of this palette. Maybe I was expecting a bit too much. I tried them with the tip of my fingers first and I have to say the shades weren't as pigmented and soft as I would have wanted. You have to rub a bit harder to get the color on, but I've seen worse blushers as well.
Ebay Buy: 10 Blush Palette Swatches

Ebay Buy: 10 Blush Palette Swatches

I did swatches of the shades on the back of my hand and I was pretty excited to try them on my face... but then Make Up Academy came along with their sale and I fell in love with their blushers. Yeah, some of their colors are way off, but I keep using my MUA Blusher in shade 3. This palette hasn't even had the chance to convince me. I'll have to give it a try and see if it works... having a blusher on your fingers/hands is still something else from having it on your face.
Ebay Buy: 10 Blush Palette Swatches

I purchased this palette on Ebay for 0.99 GPB + 2.63 GPB for shipping. It's not much, so it might be worth trying.

Essence - Divalicious Red (Show Your Feet)

My new Essence Show Your Feet (toe) nail polish in Divalicious Red. I kept passing it by and I'm glad I finally bought it.
Essence - Divalicious Red (Show Your Feet)

Essence, Show Your Feet, Divalicious Red, 2 coats
Essence - Divalicious Red (Show Your Feet)

I expected quite a lot from this polish solely on the fact it belongs to the Show Your Feet line and I wasn't disappointed. I love the flat brush (in all SYF polish shades) and the formula of this polish. The application was very easy and although it looks a bit patchy on these photos, that's not the case in real life. Strong lighting did it's thing. I wore Divalicious Red for the last three days. It didn't chip as much as it did wear off. But chipping and tip-wear are my curse, so it's not necessarily the polishes' fault. I recommend!
Essence - Divalicious Red (Show Your Feet)

BTW: My favorite medium red at the moment continues to be the Tip Top NailChic in Red Rendezvous. It's slightly better from Essence in every aspect: brush, formula and color.

Do you wear red nail polish often or is it a no-no color for you?

Fleur de Sante: Eyeshadow Quartet in Verdure & Liquid Eyeliner

*All my Fleur de Sante posts will be in English and Slovene. / Vsi članki o Fleur de Sante izdelkih bodo napisani tako v angleščini, kot tudi v slovenščini.

I'm gonna show you two Fleur de Sante products today. They both came in the same package and they can be used together, so why not. First I'll tell you a little something about Fleur de Sante Eyeshadow Quartet in Verdure. You can check out the other color combinations/quartets HERE

Danes vam bom pokazala kar dva Fleur de Sante izdelka. Začnimo s kompletom senčil za oči (četvorčkom) v odtenku Verdure. Ostale kombinacije barv/četvorčke si lahko ogledaš TUKAJ
Fleur de Sante Eyeshadow Quartet in Verdure

Verdure consists of three shimmery shades (off white, light green and bronze green) and one matte shade (olive green). This quartet comes with an applicator, but I didn't use it to apply the shades... I don't really like these sponge applicators, so I don't use them. It's still better than nothing, but as long as I have an eyeshadow brush, other applicators aren't necessary.

Fleur de Sante Eyeshadow Quartet in Verdure
Ingredients/Sestavine: Talc, Mica, Magnesium Stearate, Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, Isopropyl Isostearate, Silica, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Phenoxyethanol, BHT.+/-Octyldodecyl Stearate,Isopropyl Myristate,CI 77491,CI 77492,CI 77499,CI 77891,CI 77288,CI 16035,CI 77007CI 77742,CI 77163, Tin Oxide.
Fleur de Sante Eyeshadow Quartet in Verdure

I've tried both more and less pigmented eyeshadows, but I think the color payoff is pretty good with these. They're easy to work with and blend well. The only thing I didn't like is the dusting.

Senčke v Verdure kompletu senčil so dobro pigmentirane. Z njimi je lahko delati in tudi zabrišejo se lepo. Edino kar me moti, je prašenje senčk ob stiku s čopičem.
Fleur de Sante Eyeshadow Quartet in Verdure

Another product I tried together with Verdure quartet is the Liquid Eye Liner. This one comes in black only. / Naslednji izdelek, ki sem ga preizkusila skupaj s četvorčkom senčil je tekoče črtalo za oči - Liquid Eye Liner v črnem odtenku.
Fleur de Sante Liquid Eyeliner

The Liquid Eyeliner comes with a quite unusual applicator. It's neither a brush, neither a 'felt' tip I'm used to. The texture of it looks like of the ones in the lip glosses and it's a bit bigger than regular liquid eyeliner applicators. It's soft to touch, but I admit I was sceptic if I could actually draw a line even remotely close to my eyelash line. As it turned out, I could.

The most important thing in liquid eyeliner for me is the opacity and lasting power. I think this one has enough of both. It's a very good eyeliner and I would definitely buy it.

Zame sta pri tekočih črtalih najbolj pomembni globina barve/prekrivnost in obstojnost. Fleur de Sante črtalo je zelo dobre kakovosti v obeh kategorijah, zato bi ga vsekakor kupila.
