Essence - The Boy Next Door

The last time I checked The Boy Next Door nail polish shade from the Essence Colour & Go line was a muted/dusty blue creme. The kind of shade of blue that didn't get too much of my attention. But when I was checking the Essence display in the local drugstore yesterday, there was a shade that I haven't seen before and that certainly did catch my eye. The new version of The Boy Next Door. They did it again: they changed almost everything about the color (except the color family) and kept the old name. Why do you keep doing this, Essence folks?! Well, on the good side, at least the shade is pretty.
Essence - The Boy Next Door

I don't own the old version of The Boy Next Door, so I can't compare them side by side. I can do a comparison of other shimmery blue shades I have in my collection though. Let me know if you're interested. The new Boy Next Door is a gorgeous electric blue shimmer that has a slight tinge of purple in it. It's only visible in the corners though (like this color is supposed to be a duochrome, but doesn't have enough purple power). =) Very, very pretty shade!

I've finally made my peace with the new(-ish) Essence brush. It's still not my favorite, but at least I can apply polish with it now without painting the nails AND cuticles at the same time. The formula of this polish is close to perfect. It's thin, but not runny and the opacity is wonderful - 2 coats of polish for full opacity. You can see some brushstrokes on my photos, but they aren't really visible in real life.

I've never owned Essie Aruba Blue, but I have a feeling this shade would be a perfect substitution for it. What do you think?

Gallery Colours in Black Sparkle & Sleek Oh So Special Palette

Today's post will be somewhat a random one. Kind of like the ambient in my head is these days... I think I've had this Gallery Colours nail polish in Black Sparkle for 2 years and haven't worn it yet. And the saddest thing is, there are more and more polish shades in my collection for which I can say the same. It is getting too much for me, so I just wear the same shades over and over again. Is that just me?
Gallery Colours in Black Sparkle

Black Sparkle is the perfect solution for those who wanted to get their hands on Eyeko Vampira nail polish, but didn't act fast enough. Like me. Eyeko doesn't sell nail polish anymore (it's really sad how they're only selling mascara, eyeliner and brow gel now) but Black Sparkle one can still be found on Ebay UK. I needed three coats to achieve full opacity and a layer of top coat to give it shine. Nothing too special: good formula, good application...
Gallery Colours in Black Sparkle

My last eye make up endeavour encouraged me try my Sleek Oh So Special eyeshadow palette again. I use the black eyeshadow for my lashline (instead of using regular eyeliner) all the time, but the other colors... not so much.  To be totally honest - I think I look weird with eyeshadow. I feel most comfortable with a little black eyeshadow along my lashline and mascara. That's it. And I used to wear really heavy eye makeup a few years back. People change, right?
Sleek Oh So Special Eyeshadow Palette Makeup

I used:
* Maybelline Instant Anti-Age The Eraser Perfect & Cover Foundation (as a base)
* Sleek Eyeshadow Palette in Oh So Special
* Essence I Love Extreme Volume Mascara
* MUA Eyeshadow Shade 19 Matt (for my brows)

Dance Legend - Termo no. 170

I've been struggling with this Dance Legend polish ever since I got it and that was quite some time ago. Well, I haven't been struggling with polish per se, it was more of a struggle to capture it's colors on camera. It's a shade no. 170 from the Termo collection which changes colors due to changes in temperature of your fingers/nails. It's very dark, vampy red (almost black) when cold and it turns to medim red and bright tomato red when warm. My nails are too short to see both colors on them at the same time, which makes it harder to swatch, but I prefer it this way. Bright red nails and dark tips might suggest I have dirt under my nails. And that's not the best look for anyone.

I've managed to photograph the transition from dark to bright red. Somewhat.

Ta daa! When I tried to wear this shade in the summer, it looked like this most of the time. I guess it's better to wear it when it's colder outside. The color change is quite fast, if I may add, and I can't wait to try this baby in the winter. I used three coats for my swatches and the polish dried to a weird not-matte-yet-not-glossy finish. I slapped a layer of top coat over it for a glossy look.

Sea Jewel is just like the description says - full of green and silver sparkles. I used three coats of polish for full opacity and a coat of Essence Better Than Gel Nails Top Sealer to smooth out the surface. The application was easy and the formula was great.

You can see Antuka's original post on her Sea Jewel shade HERE

Eye Make Up: Manhattan Intense Effect Eyeshadow in Peach Party

It took me a while to realize I haven't done any make up looks for quite some time now. I purchased this Manhattan Intense Effect Eyeshadow in Peach Party today and I think it's an already discontinued product since I can't find it on the Manhattan website and it was only 1,95€. I really can't follow all the trend/limited editions/collections from so many brands anymore. Or maybe I just don't care as much anymore. That's probably it. Anyhow... Manhattan is a german make up brand and it's quite good in quality. I really like their pressed powders and their eyeshadows are usually a hit for me as well. Enough rambling... let's see what I bought today.

Shade combo seemed perfect for fall and that's one of the reasons I bought this eyeshadow duo. Low price was also a good reason. I did a quick and easy eye make up look with it to see how it performs. I used Urban Decay Primer Potion as a base, lighter part of the Manhattan Intense Effect Eyeshadow in Peach Party all over my upper lid and darker part in my corners, crease and along my lower lashline. I also used Essence Eyeliner Pen, Essence Black Mania Eye Pencil and Essence Get Big Lashes Volume Boost Mascara. Please, forgive my eyebrows. I have no idea what's happening with them lately. *shrugs*

Review: Born Pretty Store Chinese Nail Water Decals

Nail water decals are perfect for people like me - people who are lazy when it comes to nail art. I (sometimes) like my nails pimped, but who has the time, or better yet patience. Well, not when it comes to water decals. They're really easy to use, the application is fast and the effect is perfect. I got another set of water decals from Born Pretty Store, this time in chinese motif.

Aren't these pretty?

I explained how water decals are used in one of my previous Born Pretty Store posts in case you missed it - SpongeBob Squarepants post. I used Sinful Easy Going as a base for the decals.

I've tried a lot of different nail decorations, but the ones I like the most are water decals. They never lift from the nails since you set them with top coat and they kind of become one with the polish. They don't feel weird on the nails - like some other stickers do. And they come in so many different patterns and images. I just love them. If you haven't tried them before, I suggest you to give them a try.

You can buy Chinese water nail decals on Born Pretty Store (here's a direct link) for $2.86 (for one sheet with 15 decals). If you're planning on buying from Born Pretty Store, here's a 10% off code for you - SSG10. It's also in the sidebar.

My First Acrylic Painting on Canvas

I've purchased my first canvas the other day and I can't believe I haven't tried painting on canvas until now. I wasn't sure what to paint but then my BF asked me to do a painting of Lich King from his favorite game World of Warcraft. And so I did. Although the canvas is small (30x40 cm), it took me three days to finish it. I'm not completely happy with it, but I'm proud of it nonetheless. Here's a link to the reference photo I used.

Beauty UK Posh Polish Denim FX in Blue Denim

Here's the second (and last) shade from the Beauty UK Posh Polish Denim FX line called Blue Denim
Beauty UK Posh Polish Denim FX in Blue Denim

Blue Denim is, just like the black version, packed with silver shimmer. It dries into a satin finish - it's still too shiny to be called matte, but whatever floats your boat...
Beauty UK Posh Polish Denim FX in Blue Denim

The formula of this polish is very similar to the Black Denim one with one little exception: Blue Denim is completely opaque in 1 coat. I used 2 for my swatches as always, but you could defnitely get away with one layer. So, quality wise, Blue Denim is the winner. But I still prefer the look of the black sibling.

Beauty UK Posh Polish Denim FX in Black Denim

Beauty UK has recently released two new shades in their Posh Polish line called Denim FX. One in blue and one in black. I'm gonna show you the black one today. This one is called Black Denim.
''The newest edition to the ever popular posh polish collection is a must have this season. Available in classic indigo and black it applies glossy and dries to a matte denim finish with subtle silver undertones.
Worn on its own, the dark sultry shades compliment any skin tone, giving a stylish, minimalistic appearance, keeping your look up to date.
For every material girl, your favourite denim can now be worn every day!''(Beauty UK)
Beauty UK Posh Polish Denim FX in Black Denim

Black Denim is a simple black nail polish with silver shimmer. It applies glossy and dries into a satin finish. It's actually nothing special and it reminds me of my old Gosh Black Passion polish, but it's still pretty though. Definitely something I see myself wearing on a regular basis.
Beauty UK Posh Polish Denim FX in Black Denim

The polish was pretty sheer after the first coat, but built up nicely with the second one. The formula was nice and the application was OK.

I applied a layer of Essence Better Than Gel Nails Top Sealer over Black Denim and ended up with a glossy black nails with silver shimmery reflection. I just didn't take enough time to photograph it like I should. I did take a photo of my new ring though, so you can see it here. The ring was bought on Ebay for $2.99 in case you're wondering.

Review: LUSH Soft Coeur (aka The Honeymooner)

Chocolate as a massage bar? Give it to me, now! I've been eyeing Soft Coeur ever since I first smelled it in a Lush store. It smells like sweet sin. Hee hee... honey and chocolate is the combination I cannot say no to.
''Our soft-hearted, melty massage bar is designed for lovers and romantic trysts. Soft Coeur got its name from the delectable union of honey and chocolate in a soft center. You can break the heart in half to reveal the messy chocolate middle and melt it all over your favorite body to make him or her extra tasty. In fact, it's as good for your skin as it is for your relationship. Creamy cocoa butter, softening cocoa powder and almond oil condition your skin to leave it smooth while the honey chocolate scent makes your mouth water. Delicious!'' (LUSH USA)
Ingredients: Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao), Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii), Honey (Mel), Cocoa Powder (Theobroma cacao), Fragrance, Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis), Glycerine, Sweet Wild Orange Oil (Citrus sinensis), Bergamot Oil (Citrus bergamia), *Limonene, *Linalool, Benzyl Benzoate. *occurs naturally in essential oils

(LUSH SI)
LUSH Soft Coeur

Soft Coeur is one of the many Lush massage bars full of moisturizing butters and essential oils which melts when it touches warm skin. To me, it smells of sweet white chocolate (which happens to be my absolute favorite). I love everything about this massage bar except the brown parts. They tend to leave color streaks on skin, which doesn't look too cool. =)

You can buy Soft Coeur in Lush stores for ~ $8.95/ £4.75/ €7.95. Prices vary from country to country.

Have you tried any of the Lush massage bars? What do you think of them and which one is your favorite?

Essence Electric Blue + piCture pOlish Freya's Cats

I think I found a perfect friend for my piCture pOlish collaboration shade Freya's Cats. Electric Blue by Essence (from the Show Your Feet line) was just sitting on my table, when it hit me: it would make a perfect base for Freya's Cats! I wanted it to look even more vibrant than by itself and since it's a jelly the only way was to apply it over similar creme shade.
Essence Electric Blue + piCture pOlish Freya's Cats

True electric blue shade: check, visible holographic scattered shimmer: check, awesome looking nails: check! I love Freya's Cats on it's own, but I also love the extra kick this Electric Blue gives it.

Why not go all the way when playing with layering polishes? I topped it up with a coat of Essence Matt Top Coat. I found the result to be pretty amazing. I need to try layering more often. =)
