Summer is coming and your nails should be ready for sunny days. What better finish to wear than shiny holographic nail polish - I read somewhere that life is too short to wear boring nail polish. ;) I got 7 holographic shades from the FUN Lacquer Summer 2014 collection for review and without further ado, here they are...
Swatches below were shot both indoors in artificial lighting and outdoors in natural lighting without flash.
TGIF, 2-3 coats
TGIF is a special one in the bunch, since it's a bonus shade. It's not as solid in color as other shades, but it's definitely worth the attention. It looks amazing in real life and the photos just don't do it justice. It's holographic and it also appears to be somewhat duochrome-ish. Shiny and magical. I can't really describe it properly, you'll have to check it out for yourselves.
Margarita Cocktail, 3 coats
Margarita Cocktail is a green-ish yellow shade. It's one of the less opaque shades from the collection and it requires 3 coats for full opacity.
Radiance, 2 coats
Radiance is a warm pink-red (cerise) shade.
Uniform for Summer: Bikini, 2 coats
Uniform for Summer: Bikini is a pink holographic shade. Although it look very cool, it's a trouble child of the collection. I was warned about its staining feature, so I applied a coat of base coat for this one... Well, it didn't stain my nails, but it did stain my fingers instead. Sadly, I didn't remember to swatch it in the end and I had to photograph TGIF after removing this beauty. Hence my pink nails on the photos with TGIF. What can I do... I tried.
Evening Gown, 2 coats
Evening Gown is a true purple holo. It's my favorite from the collection and it's also very opaque. It could be a 1-coater, but I added another coat of polish for the depth. It's gorgeous: dark, yet shiny.
Starry Night of the Summer, 2 coats
Starry Night of the Summer is a blue holographic shade. It has the same quality as Evening Gown. Very opaque and a pleasure to look at.
Mowed Meadow, 2 coats
Mowed Meadow is a grass green shade.
As you can see: Summer 2014 is all about shiny holographic shimmer. These were my very first FUN Lacquer shades and I have to say my experience with them was very pleasant. The polishes have consistent formula and a great flat brush. Application was easy and I didn't have to do any clean-up after it. Most of the polishes need 2 coats for full opacity, some might be even 1-coaters (Evening Gown, Radiance, Starry Night of the Summer). The only downside was the staining of Uniform of the Summer: Bikini, but that's what occasionally happens when swatching a lot of shades in a short time frame. Not all the shades are my cup of tea, but as far as the quality goes...they're all worth having if you dig the color.
You can find FUN Lacquer nail polishes on FUN Lacquer website and their Facebook page. Summer 2014 collection can be pre-ordered on May 26th (check Fun Laquer Facebook page for more information). The official release of the collection will be on June 9th.
