R.I.P Aishila

A lot has happened in the last few months, but my energy level does not allow me to post as regularly as I should. I do feel like I should tell you that my little one passed away today. It was a hard choice to make, but euthanasia felt like the best solution. She's been losing weight fast in the last week, didn't want to eat or drink and was severely dehydrated. I took her to the vet where they took her blood and put her on IV. The blood tests weren't good at all. Her creatinine level was 8 (normal levels are between 0.8 and 2.4 mg/dL) and her BUN (urea) was 130 mg/dL (normal levels are from 16 to 36). These weren't the only numbers that didn't fall into the ''normal'' category, but they were the ones that suggested she was in the final stage of chronic renital failure (CRF). A disease which cannot be cured. When we came home after the IV on the first day, I immediately did an internet search for CRF, trying to see if there's anything I could do. I found this great site about CRF and ARF (acute renal failure) which I recommend to all cat owners -

I tried with IV's for three days and the vet was supposed to teach me how to do sub-q's as well. She felt a bit better after the first IV, and she got Hill's k/d food which is designed specially for animals with CRF. On the second day it got worse. She didn't feel like cuddling anymore, she wanted to be alone and she would urinate all the time. Since there's no real cure for this disease, I decided to let her go. I couldn't wait for her to die of heart failure or fluids in her lungs... starvation or dehydration. It was one of the most difficult decisions I had to make... My heart is broken. She was a very special cat, a fighter and she loved everyone. You will be missed, my little monkey...
