Dusty: Sally Hansen - Arabian Night

My nail polish crush from long, long time ago. I adored everything purple back then. It started with purple cremes and slowly my love spreaded onto the shimmer versions of purple shades as well. Sally Hansen Salon Nail Lacquer in Arabian Night is one of my Ebay purchases from 2009. It's still available (I checked) but it's a bit pricier now - it can be yours for 19.99 USD plus shipping.

I can see why I fell in love with this shade, but my love isn't as strong nowadays. Don't get me wrong - it's a gorgeous and very unique shade (I've never owned a shade like this one), but it just doesn't do it for my anymore. It's a 3-coater and it doesn't look very flattering on me. I think I might have to move this shade to my 'blog sale' bin. Still, I'm sure it will be hard to say goodbye to this one...

Review: Born Pretty Store Snakeskin Pattern Water Nail Decals

If you thought I was done with my Born Pretty Store water nail decals, you were wrong. =) I have another set of full nail decals for you. This time they're animalistic looking.
Born Pretty Store Snakeskin Pattern Water Nail Decals

I'll admit it. I have a thing for snakeskin nails. Don't know why... Maybe it's because I've always liked the way snake's skin looks, but find it too tacky to wear the patter on my shoes, scarf... Hence nails! I had my eyes on the Bundle Monster image plate (the one with the snake pattern) from the moment it came out, but now I see these Born Pretty Snakeskin Pattern Water Decals are even better. Well, at least better looking. You can't re-use them (which is the case with image plates) and that's the sad part.
Born Pretty Store Snakeskin Pattern Water Nail Decals

See how perfect they look? They look so realistic, I almost thought I was gonna feel the texture of the snakeskin as well.
Born Pretty Store Snakeskin Pattern Water Nail Decals

Like most of the water nail decals, these too need a base. I used Color Club French Tip. The lighter parts of the pattern are partly see through and that's why they wouldn't work with dark base. White turned out to be perfect for these. Most 'problematic' part of using this type of full nail decals is: you have to cut them to fit your cuticle line. I don't find that to be very hard, but I know some of you might have some problems. Other than that, these decals are a pure joy to work with. They're thin, soft, they stick to your nails well and wear like nail polish does - no lifting at the edges, unless your nail polish base chips on you.

Yves Rocher Purchase & Their Misleading Advertising

I really wanted to get my hands on some Yves Rocher EDTs, so I placed an order on their slovenian website. I like most of the products, but the experience of buying on Yves Rocher Slovenia was also negative due to their misleading advertising. But first, let's see the items I've purchased:
Yves Rocher Purchase

Cocoa & Pistachio Nut Perfumed Shower Gel - It has that artificial pistachio scent I know so well from the pistachio ice cream I used to love. This one is sickeningly sweet though. It literally makes me sick and gives me headache. Although it doesn't leave my skin too smelly, I probably won't use it... it's way too scented. I can't smell the cocoa, just the pistachio. I can say I definitely do not like this one and I most certainly wouldn't repurchase it. Price: 2,19€ for 300 mL.

Monoi de Tahiti Dry Body Oil - This body oil smells divine! At first it reminded me of the Hawaiian Tropic Protective Oil, but this one smells even better. Not so coconut-y and more floral (gardenia extract) - great scent. It comes in a plastic spray type of bottle. It makes the skin soft, shiny, scented and not at all greasy. You can use this one on your body and hair. I adore this product and would buy it again. And again, and again. Price: 6,59€ for 125 mL.

Vanilla Eau de Toilette - This eau de toilette has a sweet, warm, true vanilla scent. The sillage is quite heavy for my taste and although it smells nice (like vanilla should smell) it feels kind of boring. I more used to vanilla mixed with other complementary scents. I wouldn't buy this one for myself again, but I'd definitely recommed to all die hard vanilla fans. Price: 5,13€ for 20 mL.

Purple Lilac EDT and Shower Gel Set - This is the reason I placed an order in the first place. I've always loved the scent of purple lilac and when I saw this set, I knew I had to get it. It has a very pleasant (true) purple lilac scent. The sillage of the EDT is moderate and not too strong. It doesn't last very long on skin, so I might try spraying it on my hair and clothes instead of my skin. I love this one, it smells great. The shower gel smells a bit more soap-y, but once it's rinsed, it leaves my skin subtly scented. I would definitely buy again. Price: 8,59 € for 2x 100 mL.
Yves Rocher Lilas Mauve Purple Lilac Set

Lily of the Valley EDT and Shower Gel Set- You can basically read all about the Purple Lilac set and apply it here. It has a nice, true lily of the valley scent. Not very long lasting, but smells wonderful. Price: 8,59 € for 2x 100 mL.
Yves Rocher Muguet de Fleurs Lily of the Valley Set

Let's move on to the part with which I wasn't too pleased... Slovenian Yves Rocher online shop offers special gifts depending on how much you spend:

* If you spend more than 10,90€, you receive a free Yves Rocher product in the value of 15,90€ or higher. * If you spend more than 16,90€ you receive the first gift and a second gift by your choice (set of toilet bags, set of plastic dishes, sports bag or a blanket).
* If you spend over 29,90€ you get the first two gifts and free shipping.

So, I spent over 30€ and that means I got two gifts and free shipping. Well, everything is OK with that...but let's just see what I actually got.

This is the set of three toilet bags Yves Rocher is advertising on their site. You can choose it as a gift when you spend over 16,90€. It looks nice, huh? Yeah, that's what I though.
Until I got this.
Yves Rocher Toilet Bag

I know, I know. It's a gift and it's free... but still. Look again at the one above and then look at the sad excuse of a bag I got. Very disappointing, Yves Rocher. Very disappointing.
Yves Rocher Toilet Bag

And this is a gift I got for spending more than 10,90€. It's a Protectyl Vegetal 3 in 1 High Protection Spray with SPF 30. Great!
Yves Rocher Protectyl Vegetale 3 in 1 Hydra Protection

BUT... it expires in March. Sadly I do not have the money or time to go to the Caribbean before that date. Disappointment no. 2.
Yves Rocher Protectyl Vegetale 3 in 1 Hydra Protection

I most probably won't be buying from Yves Rocher via their online store anymore. I might go to their store, but that's a long shot too...

Have you ever bought products from Yves Rocher? Please, share your experience!

Swatches & Review: Dance Legend Caviar Collection - Dorado, Pseudochromis, Zebrasoma & Blue Regal

I haven't tried caviar yet, nor do I intend to. I did try four polishes from the Dance Legend Caviar Collection though. Here are my photos and opinion...
Dance Legend Caviar Collection

Caviar Collection consists of 12 shades (you can see them all HERE). All of the shades have tinted jelly base with small white and black glitter. Six of them contain colored shiny glitter as well. I'm gonna show you 4 of the 12 shades: Dorado, Pseudochromis, Zebrasoma and Blue Regal

The base of Dorado isn't tinted, but it has a loads of black, white and shiny golden glitter to make up for the lack of color.

All of the polishes I've tried from the Caviar collection have good formula, the application was easy and the brush is very nice as well. They're all 3-coaters (due to jelly base). They contain lots of glitter which makes the removal of the polish a bit tricky. I recommed a foil removal method so you don't end up with glitter all over your fingers. I didn't bother with foil though - I cut the cotton pad to smaller pieces and soaked each one in acetone. I placed the remover-soaked cotton on my nails and waited for a minute (without the foil wrapping part). The polish came off without a problem. I don't really like the way these shades look on photos, but I did like the look of them on my nails. They just look much better in real life.

You can buy the shades of Caviar collection on Dance Legend online store for 9.00 USD. Check out their Facebook page for more information.

Weekly Sum-Up #63

It's a pretty boring week behind me. I painted my nails a couple of times, pet my furry ones and before I knew it, I'm here on a Sunday evening. Feeling very lazy and hungry. My sister introduced me to the smoked salmon a few days ago and I can't stop thinking about it. And I do not say this lightly... I know there's a lot of you vegetarians and vegans out there. I wish I could say no to meat. And don't tell me I can do it. I tried and I need it. My body needs it. And again, please, don't tell me my body doesn't need it. OK? Let's move on.

I don't make new year's resolutions, but if I did make one, it would be to widen the specter of the nail polish shades I'm using. Seriously, I have about 1000 nail polish bottles and I only use a couple of them. Those are my favorites, but still. This time I decided to try out my Catrice Shopping Day at Bluemingdales again. A bit too sheer for my taste, but I still only used 2 coats. Wonderful color though.

I did not like the fact that Essence Miss Universe nail polish needs three coats for full opacity. So, my dear reader Nanethiel advised me to try layering it over a dark blue or black base. And I did. I used Stairway to Heaven from the Essence Re-mix Your Style trend edition. She was right, it does look pretty when layered. But all in all, it still took three coats for this manicure (two of the blue base and one of the Miss Universe).

Once I hopped on the layering wagon, it all got so interesting. And I layered. All colors and finishes possible. I did make some combos I really liked...but I'm gonna tell you more about them in one of my next posts. Which one is your favorite?

I realized that How I Met Your Mother is slowly coming to an end and although it became kind of hard to watch it (based on how bad the last two seasons are) I still managed to get through the last few episodes of season 9. Such a shame. What was once my favorite TV show is now... I can't even find the words. Even Neil Patrick Harris can't help this show anymore. Maybe CBS is just helping us to let go... In the words of a very wise man named Sheldon Cooper: ''They have to help the viewers let go. Firefly did a movie to wrap things up. Buffy the Vampire Slayer continued on as a comic book. Heroes gradually lowered the quality season by season till we were grateful it ended.'' And the same goes for HIMYM.

I can't help myself, I just have to post my favorites from this year's Golden Globes red carpet. My favorite couple: Aaron Paul and his beautiful wife Lauren Parsekian. Perfection of a couple.

My favorite dress was worn by Cate Blanchett. She looks so poised, doesn't she? Like she's a real life Galadriel. Amazing woman.

Another Kate. Beckinsale. She's just so pretty and she wears the dress really well. Not a winner, but I like the whole package.

And my favorite preggy: Olivia Wilde as a proof you can have a belly and still look amazing.

Posts of the week:

Sarah from Chalkboard Nails posted her Top 13 Favorite Nail Art Posts of 2013. Distressed Nail Art tutorial is among them too!

You can see the Cirque Alchemy Collection Review on Fashion Polish. I believe Sam has gotten one of my very favorite nail polish swatchers. Her photos are always impeccable.

Judith from Spector's Nails posted Gradient Salted Watercolor Nails on her blog last Sunday. I bet the manicure was a big hit, because she also posted a tutorial on her blog.

Deborah from Love. Varnish, chocolate and more... posted not one, but two gorgeous manicures: first one was Zoya Sunshine and the second one was Illamasqua Facet. Facet got my attention when I first saw it in the store and Deborah's post surely isn't making things easier for me...

Review: Lush Gorilla Perfume - Flower's Barrow

Flower's Barrow (source)
Flower's Barrow is my second fragrance from the new Lush Gorilla Perfume collection. You can read my review of the first one (Sikkim Girls) HERE
''A nostalgic perfume inspired by the stories of an Iron Age hillfort, taken over by Romans who are now said to haunt the place known as Flower's Barrow. The ancient ruins sunk into the sea, and nettles and brambles have taken over the land. Sage and thyme pull you back through the ages to times gone by. Ripe, bursting blackcurrant and sweet geranium are the tang of sea air and the wild plants that entwine against ancient stone in a leafy embrace.'' (Lush USA)
Ingredients: DRF Alcohol, Perfume, Geranium Oil, Rose Absolute, Blackcurrant Absolute, Roman Chamomile Oil, Citronellol, *Citral, *Geraniol, *Limonene, *Linalool, *Eugenol, *Farnesol. (*occurs naturally in essential oils)

(Lush SI)
LUSH Gorilla Perfume in Flower's Barrow

What's interesting about these Lush perfumes is what I think about them when I sniff them from the bottle directly and how the scent developes once applied to the skin. It's like day and night. If I went to the store I probably wouldn't buy this scent. It reminded me of a lady version of a man's cologne at first: nothing special and nothing I would love to wear on my skin. But I did try it on and a couple of sniffs later.. I'm in love with it. Geranium with just a hint of rose, sage and thyme with a little bit of black currant. Flower's Barrow is a sweet (but not too much) herbal scent, it's spicy yet calming. I cannot say how much I adore its uniqueness and herbal touch. I like to apply it at evenings, before going to bed - just to be comforted by this beautiful scent. If you're tempted to buy one of Lush Gorilla perfumes, I strongly suggest you try it out on your skin first. What you smell directly from the bottle is not the true essence of the perfume...

Geranija s pridihom vrtnice, žajbelj in timijan s kančkom črnega ribeza.

You can buy Flower's Barrow perfume in Lush stores from ~ $19.95/ £14.00/ €17.45. Prices vary from country to country.

Essence - Miss Universe

Miss Universe is one of my latest Essence polishes. I like the color a lot, but don't like the name at all. I don't follow all these beauty contests, but we did have an interesting incident here in Slovenia regarding Miss Universe 2013. She claimed she was a medicine student and a Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra violinist... It turned out she was lying and hadn't even finished high school. =) Oh, the shame!
Essence Colour and Go in Miss Universe

Miss Universe is a dark teal blue shade with green and blue flaky shimmer. It looks pretty dark on nails, but the shimmer shines through, keeping the polish from looking too gloomy.
Essence Colour and Go in Miss Universe

Essence, Miss Universe, 3 coats
Essence Colour and Go in Miss Universe

I adore how this polish looks on nails. It's dark but doesn't look black and I love wearing these type of shades. What can I do, I still feel best in dark clothing with dark nails. The only problem I have with it is its opacity. It needs 3 coats for full opacity without bald spots. It dries rather fast though due to thin formula. Here's how it looks outdoors on natural lighting.
Essence Colour and Go in Miss Universe

By the way: I checked who were the top 5 contestants for Miss Universe 2013 (for the purposes of this post) and I think this one should definitely win. Spain and Patricia Rodriguez all the way! =)
